6x50 Toro: Oily/Shiny maduro wrapper

Smoked very evenly with a long ash, I finally ashed it about 2 inches in because the draw was tight and once I ashed it, the draw was perfect again! It started off with spice for the first 5 draws and then mellowed out and there were a honey sweet finish on my palate throughout the rest of the cigar. I really enjoyed it! I've never had this cigar before, but from the appearance of it (it had a couple flaws in the wrapper, like a spot where the wrapper was bunched) and it wasn't perfectly cylindrical, but a tiny bit curved so I believe it was a second. After thinking for a while, i think it was:

an RP Edge Maduro second...

so was I close CP?!

It's an interesting cigar, and the wrapper flaws are pretty typical for the vitola.

It's a Diamond Crown Maximus Toro - looks bad, smokes well... Big Grin

Just finished my BP. Beautiful little vitola. Nice construction, triple cap. Classic cuban profile of hardwoods and spice with a little floral in the aroma, picked up a little cocoa in the mddle, a little salty in the finish. Great. I loved it. For me it had everything it should and nothing it shouldn't. I'm guessing it wwas a Partagas, probably a Petit coronas especiales? If I'm right this is the first CC I've been gifted with on the forums. Thanks a mil bro!

So how'd I do?

BTW, I'd give it a solid 92

OK - finally posting my review of the first of two smokes that Appa69 sent my way (many thanks!!!)

This is for the ( very slightly) darker of the two - a nicely-made Petit Corona, 4.5 x 40-ish. The wrapper is a nice rosado, almost identical in color and texture to the H.Upmann Sir Winston I just picked up in CEC's box pass.

Triple cap, a couple of veins - nice construction overall.

The pre-light draw was dry, with just a hint of pepper. After lighting, the immediate note was of tingly ligero - dry and peppery and a little bit woody.

The ash was dark gray and short, and the smoke was plentiful, with that same woody note.

It warmed a bit, but kept that consistency throughout - a short finish, with pepper that gradually warmed. I smoked it with a cup of coffee, but I think it would have been better paired with a gin & tonic or a light rum.

Some slight burn issues, probably caused by a bit of a breeze. It did tunnel a bit in the second half, but it corrected itself.

So... I'm going to call it a CC, but I'm not sure which. It's not as earthy as a Partagas Short, but has similar spice.

H.Upmann PC?

At least I got the country of origin correct... Big Grin

Very cool!

I keep my humis at 63% - 65% - I'll toss the other on in a bag with a 70% boveda pack and let you know the difference...

Okay, I just smoked the torpedo that I got from Joe. It had a spicy/peppery taste with rich tobacco flavors that reminded me a lot of a Sancho Panza Bachilleres I smoked with appa69 about a month ago. Was a very good cigar with excellent draw. No idea what it was, as Sancho doesn't make a cigar that size, so I opened the envelope with the band and found out that it was a Padilla Miami. I can see what all the hype is about, this was my first of the brand. I'd give it a solid 90.

Thanks Joe!

I am glad you liked it Jim, the Miami along with the 1932 are some of my favorite smokes!

PRE-LIGHT: the cigar looks to be a typical toro size about 6x50-52, a nice chocolaty hued maduro wrapper. the wrapper gives off just that, a rich chocolate with a little spice. First impression leads me to an Edge maduro. very firm, no softs spots and a double cap. pre-light draw has a little spice and a bitter cocao flavor (i think).

FIRST 1/3: cigar draws real well and has a decent amount of smoke. cigar has sort of a grassy flavor with a little spice, starting to pick up a little bittersweet chocolate as well. spice subsided and the chocolate picked up as the third progressed.

SECOND 1/3: started to pick up some leathery flavors, other then that the cigar remained the same.

FINAL 1/3: no discernible change

OVERALL: not a bad smoke, not something i would smoke on a daily basis but a good change of pace. similar to the HdM epicure maduro but i like that one a lot better. im gonna stick to my gut and go with an edge toro based on the consistency in flavor, size, and construction (really tightly wrapped, almost no spring in the cigar) cuz ive never had one. it also tasted honduran tobacco but im not sure. id give it an 87 b/c of the lack of complexity.

so was i right?

any idea who sent me this stick/what it was?

Yes you were right. Edge Maduro.

sorry bro that i didn't get back to you sooner. I don't have internet at my new place yet so I'm stuck to checking it at work during the week. It was a partagas but if memory serves me correctly it was a Shorts...I love that little smoke! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
