I'm in as well, but we should wait for the last couple to review round 1 first.

I haven't posted my review yet - I wanted to give Fredriko's smoke a week in the humi, and I'll be smoking it on Thursday. I'll have the review up on Friday.

I'm also up for round two - sign me up!

Smile

This review is for the lighter colored of the two torpedos Earl sent me. Like the first, construction was top notch. Great lines, firm and even. Pre-light smell was very sweet. Smoked this one on a windy day, so I had to work it a little. First third was cedary sweet with leather and a slight spice, with a creamy finish with that same hint of anise. Second third was a little spicer with hardwoods and charcoal with a smooth character. The last third was an amazing array of sweetness with light spice and the creamiest/nuttiest character I've experienced. I now know what they mean when they say "chewy". This cigar seemed to be of medium body, but at the end I found the need to sit down! It really fools you, a true wolf in sheeps clothing. I actually prefered this cigar better than the first, once I caught my breath. Wink I would give it a solid 93, and I'm a ratings miser. Based on what I know, it was of the same brand as the first so I have to go with La Aurora as to which vitola, hmmm... I'm gonna guess 1495?

And the envelope says....

I'm A$$ BACKWARDS!

First one was 1495, second was 100 anos.

Thank you Earl for two wonderful experiences.

I'm glad you enjoyed them both! It was all I could do to not say anything - you were amazingly close on both guesses... Big Grin

Of the two, I prefer the 100 Anos overall - it's one of my all-time favorites - but the 1495 is no slouch either...

It's late Thursday night, and I finally set aside the time to light up Fredriko's most interesting smoke. I was sitting outside with some good friends around sunset. We were kicked-back under a picnic shelter at Will's Park in Alpharetta (speaking of which, has anyone heard from Minalpharetta lately?), enjoying the evening and good conversation.

On to the smoke...

This was a figurado with a chisel tip, 6.5" x about 60 guage, with a nice gold wrapper. Construction was good, with just a few veins, and the chisel tip just took a gentle squeeze to open up - no clipping necessary.

The pre-light draw was gentle and easy, with a touch of spice. It lit easily and burned perfectly, despite a bit of breeze. The ash was light gray and held for a good two inches.

The first third was good clean spice and pepper - strong, but not harsh or overpowering, with a very clean finish.

As I continued to enjoy the cigar, the spice developed, staying very clean and strong but picking up the slightest note of mint on my tongue; this continued through the remainder of the smoke.

I smoked this down to the nub, risking both fingers and moustache. Big Grin

To be perfectly honest, I can't place this cigar. I've not smoked any other chisels, so I don't have a basis for comparison. I've seen a write-up somewhere on this tip design (no clipping or punching necessary - as Fredriko wrote in his notes, it's very convenient!), but can't for the life of me remember the details.

Flavor-wise, I'm reminded of some LFD smokes I've enjoyed in the past, so I'm going to take a SWAG and call this as an LFD Double Ligero DL-700 Sumatra.

Was I even close?

Fredriko probably is trying to spend as much time as he can with his father...

Ok here goes nothing. This is my first review so be patient

Appearance.- 7 Veiny wrapper, looks to be a colorado shade wrapper. Triple cap. 6 inches by about 48-50 ring guage.

Construction.- 7 Feels solid no soft spots and no hard spots. THe wrapper seem ed a little thin and flaked while smoking.

Pre-light aroma-- sweet tobacco smell
PRe light taste- a little spice on the tongue

Burn- 8 burned a little crooked in the first third. POssibly due to a difficult draw and many double and triple puffs

Draw 8 First third wasa little rough but after that it really opened up and drew like a champ.

Taste- (this is where this will get interesting)

Started off with a dominican taste. Not real strong though a different kind of taste like the wrapper ahd been aged. A little spice to start but that may have been due to the pre light taste still lingering. After about an inch the cigar mellow and picks up some coffee characteristics. I don't drink coffee so it taste like the coffe smell???? at about hte halfway mark Inotice some charry/ earthy tastes.
In the final third their seems to be a little sweetness when I exhale through the nose.
All and all I rate it a 25 on taste.

Overall experience- 28 A real enjoyable cigar. Nice flavor and excxellent draw and burn once it got going. -

Total score 83 and in my scoring this would be a cigar to have in my humi and I would look to purchase by the box or by singles. thanks aaron for the great experience and due to the triple cap and darker shade wrapper I'm gonna guess it may have been a pepin product the only one I know of that uses a domincan wrapper is the cabuigan possibly a guapos due to the darker shade.

The Band says a rocy Patel R4 boy was I off Very nice though!! Thanks again!!!

i'm guessing everybody but fredriko has their reviews in, so we can start round 2 whenever everybody emails me their addresses, make sure you tell me your username, full name, and then address and i'll get the secret pass out

you'll only know who you are sending to, you won't know who is sending to you, does this sound ok to everybody?
