Well I guess I will pop my "cigar reviewing cherry" right here. I just got back from lunch where I smoked my mystery cigar. Doodface sent a very good cigar and I have a few guesses, but here goes nothing. Robusto Wrapper was dark in color, not quite a maduro but it was darker. I would say it was sun-grown but then I doubt it would be supported by my guess. Draw: The draw was very good. No manipulation needed and not too easy either. If this wasn't a perfect draw, then I don't know what would be. (19/20) Burn: Good burn, a bit uneven, but it was more than likely due to the fact it was very windy today, but no touch ups were needed at all. (18/20) Taste: The first few puffs presented a very spicy/peppery taste. About one inch into the cigar, the flavors really opened up and for the first time I was able to discern a fruity, almost sweet aftertaste on my palate. This flavor stayed with the cigar throughout the end. There were some other very pleasing flavors persent but I was unable to separate them and put a name on each one. (18/20) Overall: I do not have a very advance palate yet, but this was a very satisfying cigar. I doubt I can accurately name what it was and by no means am I an aficionado...yet. HA. On my novice review scale, I will rate this a 55/60. I will definitely be buying more of these once I figure out what it is. For my decision though I am torn between two possibilities, both of which are probably wrong. 1. DPG, not sure which one though. possibly a cuban classic 2. Fuente Sungrown. Now for the envelope Dumroll please.....(opens envelope) Perdomo ESV Vintage 1991Thank you very much. I have never had one of these and I don't know if I would have ever picked one up on my own. I definitely will now though. Thanks for putting this together, it was a lot of fun.

Got my BP from CrazyPoet today. Do I have to smoke BOTH in the next 2 weeks?

OK, Just finished off my mystery smoke.. I will try to give a review, but i have never done that before, so don't expect much. I will write the review, and THEN open the envelope.
I am sitting out under the patio during a thunderstorm with a bottled water as my accompanying drink. Taking the cigar out of the bag, I now know that my previous thought of a Connecticut Shade wrapper is wrong. It has the texture of an new chamois, and gives off the scent of pure tobacco and slight floral. I cut it with a punch cutter, and it goes through like butter.. I take a few pre-light puffs and get almost purely floral notes. The draw is near perfect, just slightly on the light side. It lights easily, and while toasting it, gives off strong tobacco smells. First draw reveals that this is NOT the mild-medium smoke i was expecting! It is full bodied, and very spicy, with just a slight sourness. I have a feeling this is from our neighbors to the south. At about 1/8 in, it mellows slightly, and starts showing leather, spice, and woody / earthy flavors. The ash is firm, and it is burning perfectly. At about the 1/4 mark, I get slight nutty almond notes. The pepper notes begin to build, and it almost all Leather and Black pepper. Just before the halfway mark, it starts to become slightly salty, and this continues to build throughout. This is difinitely a high-nicotine tobacco, and I am almost wishing I would have saved it for after dinner! Only a couple of burn issues, with one touch up. Good smoke with a long finish.. I am almost certain that this is a CC, which means I have even less of chance of guessing it..
As far as rating it, I will use the CA Scale - because I don't know any better.
Appearance/Construction: 13 points Smoking Characteristics: 23 points Flavor: 22 points Overall impression: 32 points
Doodface's rookie rating = 90 points
I don't really have a clue what it is, but I will guess that it is a RyJ CC.
*** Opening envelope ***
El Rey Del mundo Choix Supreme!
never in a millions years would I have guessed that.. Thanks so much matt! Very enjoyable smoke..

DoodFace, glad you enjoyed it. Got an e-mail from CrazyPoet and it appears that I'll be reviewing 2 different cigars. Guess I'll just have to force myself to smoke 'em both in the next few days! Darn!

Smoked my first of the two Earl sent me. They looked almost identical, except one may have been a shade lighter? This would be for the darker of the two. Construction was top notch. Great lines, firm and even. Smell was very sweet. Draw was perfect. Upon lighting I was Treated to damp earth and wood on the draw, with a creamy/spicey character that lasted throughout, and what seemed to be a hint of anise on the finish. Very smooth and plesant. At the 1/3, a cedary sweetness revealed itself and took over, with a charcoal note developing in the finish. The 2/3 arrived with pepper and strong tobacco that eventually drowned out any other discernable flavours, with a bitterness creeping into the finish towards the end. It didn't seem a fitting end based on the complexity and balance of the first 2 thirds, but overall, it was a good experience. I'm pretty conservative in my ratings, but I would still give this cigar a solid 89. Now as for the guess. I'm certain that I smoked this very same cigar in the last few weeks. So I will guess La Aurora 100 Anos. I won't be able to confirm until I smoke the second one and open the envelope. So stay tuned...

It was an enjoyable smoke and well worth my time.
Thanks to Jlaker for the smoke!
My guess: R&J Cazadores
Let me know...I just really hope im not completely off base.
Well, I am very happy you enjoyed it. The band should have been in a small envelope in the box. I will go ahead and tell you it is (or was) a Padilla Signature 1932 Corona Gorda. I am happy you enjoyed it, it is oe of my favorite go to smokes. Nice review too!

I got my smoke from Fredriko this morning - I'm going to let it rest in the humi for a couple of days, and give a report next week... Looks interesting - it's definitely one I've not smoked before. Thanks, Fredriko! [Edit - this thing needs a spell checker! ]
