Your best bet would be to visit a good cigar store every month and have them pick out a selection. Then you can go back next month, tell them which cigars you liked and which you didn't, and then let them pick out more cigars based on that...and so on, and so on. Much better idea because there's a high level of personal service involved, which is what you should expect from a knolwegdeable, professional tobacconist.
Most of these Clubs don't send really great stuff. You'll get a mix of good/decent/crap. As your tastes progress, you still get the same mix. Thing is, "boutique' brands don't make many cigars so the really good stuff is tough to come by. The cigar equivalent to Budweiser isn't, so that's what you'll mostly see.
Holt's has some good samplers: www.holts.com. Not a club excactly but much better stuff.
If you don't have a local B&M, call mine: www.citytobacco.com, the phone # is on the site. Ask for Phil or Dino or The Baron, tell them you're new to cigars and want a nice sampler to start off with for, say, $50 or $75. They'll send you a few mild cigars, a few medium cigars and maybe one or two strong-but-not-too-strong picks. Save the bands, paste them into a notebook, enter your comments and then call back 30 days later with your feedback and have them put together another one.
Tell 'em The Cord sent you and they will know what to do.
Cord....edit the link for city tobacco to remove the comma at the end of the URL after the dot com. It's causing the "page can not be displayed error".

Mom: "Twenty dollars for a cigar?!?! Why don't you just set fire to a $20 bill?"
Response: "Get a $20 bill to taste like a Davidoff and I'll light my entire paycheck on fire!"

I actually did a one month for the cigarsinternational.com cigar of the month club to see what they send me. I'll let you know what I got and we'll see what the verdict is.

I do the Cigar International Cigar of the month club. 4 cigars, it is fairly inexpensive, and it lets me try things I would normally not try. This month I got a Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic and a Pryme Gold by Alec Bradley. Both of them I look forward to. THe other 2 were average.
Sometimes you have to go out on a limb, because that is where the fruit is.

2 Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic 2 Rp OWR 2 Pryme Gold Series (never heard of it) 2 Felipe Gregorio Dominicana (never heard of it)
I think it's worth the 30 bucks.. Anyone tried those last 2?
Excellent, now I know what I'm getting and I just have to wait. I hope they stuck a humi pack in there because coming from PA to TX during the holidays via USPS ... Well, not the quickest route.
