I was just thinking. While I was thinking I also used the search button and found no previous threads so if this is a repeat thread then I apologize for that.

Anyway...What if someone started a Nascar thread kind of like the Super Bowl thread? Maybe do one or two of the major races in the year or so. Or wait until the Nextel Cup. This would give plenty of time to get everything and everyone setup. Let everyone pick one driver, which there is about 30-45 to choose from.

The winner gets a stick from everyone. Or the winner can get a stick from the bottom half of the standings. So if there was 40 cars running then then from 21st place down sends the winner a stick or sticks.

I understand that it would be a lengthy and long process and it pretty much is first come first serve on driver picks, but its just a thought.

A last offer here, if about 10 or so people want to email me and do a smaller little thing with me that way picking the better drivers wouldnt be as difficult. If no ones driver wins then no one sends out sticks, or we can do the highest finish. I would be more than happy to host a small little one or something. Then I will just make a new thread with everyones drivers and names that way people know who is competing and who has what driver.

Just more of my $0.10 though... Big Grin

I was thinking about starting the same thing, but with the PGA Tour. I would participate in the Nascar thing.

I like the smaller idea. I am a casual observer of NASCAR, do all the races have generally the same number of participants? Say 45. Get 15 people and everyone pick three drivers. Well, that would present another problem. What if not all the drivers will qualify for the same race? (Not trying to highjack your idea)

I'll be interested to see how the rules progress and if I can understand it, I would join.

Not a bad idea, but the only problem that I can think of is that the first few posters would take the top drivers (JOhnson, Junior, Stewart, Gordon, etc...). After about the 10th post or so, there would be no reason to post as you probably will end up with a medicore to low chance of a winning driver.

If there were a way to do it so that the picks were both random and fair, then I can see it working.

Yeah that was what I kept pondering to EVP. I couldnt figure out a way to make it were people could get a respectively good driver for being in position 10 or something. However there are about 10 worthy racers though. Gordon, Johnson, Dale Jr, Kyle Busch, Stewart, Kahne, Kenseth, Edwards, Newman, Jarret and a few others. I mean it depends on were you are standing. I just thought I would bring it to everyone attention. So if anyone has better ideas for it, or thinks its a bad idea please post. Thanks

Hey that could actually be interesting if we excluded Tiger Woods from the pack. The way Phil plays, and Vijay is somewhere with Ernie Els right now. The window is open to just about anyone for second behind Tiger Woods.

sounds like a good idea. The way we have done nascar pools is you put all the drivers numbers in a hat and just pull numbers for the people the number is the car number and you get that driver for that week and each week you draw new numbers that way it changes it up every week. that is just one way of doing it. Hope this helps

OK, so I have been thinking about this pretty heavily and I think I may have a solution that would work for either golf or NASCAR.

Limit it to 15 people. I guess we could have a thread for each event(???) or do you think that would get too confusing? Everyone gets two drivers for NASCAR or 4 players for the PGA Tour. Doing this would allow for a wreck or a missed cut and not eliminate you from that weeks competition. You have to have your player picks in by Weds night for the PGA Tour and Saturday night for NASCAR.

I thought we could do a total of the finishing spots to determine the winner and obviously the lowest score would win each week.

We could pay out one cigar to the winner each week and three cigars per person for the overall winner at the end of the season. Maybe we could send the sticks out once a month to avoid having to pay shipping each week? I guess it wouldn't really matter since we could be sending a stick a week to a different address or 4 sticks to 4 different addresses at the end of the month so the shipping cost would still be the same. Would we want to just send one package to the winner at the end of the season? I don't know.

The more I think about this, the more scenarios I come up with and the more options arise to make this more teidious.

I don't know, I can't think about this any more right now.

I was also in the same boat Jlaker. I was typing what I was "originally thinking" and more and more scenario's kept arising. I am going to pull my name out of trying and making this happen. I guess it was a spur of the moment thought. I just would get to confused and too much would be on my shoulders if I was running the show. However, if someone else wanted to do this then I would be down to participate. By the way Jlaker, your ideas are pretty good. If someone wants to commit then let them, if they dont then lets just let this idea die. Plus March Madness is coming up!
