Smoking the Sancho Panza Bachilleres (12/98) from Appa69
I've had a really long day, so I find myself simply enjoying the $%&@ out of this cigar and paying a little less attention to the "review" focus.
To start, the cigar is in great shape, but does feel "old" meaning that the wrapper feels thin and light. Light cedar on the pre-light. Very good construction.
It starts off Medium in body with a medium flavor that is somewhat difficult to describe. Little leather, cedar, floral, licorice. It is VERY clean tasting and smooth. This cigar is smoking itself. Effortless.
Mid way through and there is some more candy like floral flavors with a hint of straw. I want to say that the candy flavor is Nougat (nutty, sweet, licorice). Still medium.
There is a lingering sweetness on the palate.
Now there is a big spider crawling next to me. Go away spider, I'm smoking here.
Down to the last third and i don't want the smoke to end. The body is a bit stronger. A little less of the subtle complexity in place of some strength. It is down to my fingers.
Rating 94.
Bravo Appa69. This is a little treasure. A fantastic example of a long term aged smoke. I tasted things that I have not experienced in my current tenure of recent NC's. It did not blow me away with strength, but I never once felt that i needed that strength to satisfy me (which is something I look for with my NC's). The overall smoothness allowed me to truly enjoy the brilliant flavors and nuances of this cigar.
Thank again.
Mike

Got the package from thaterp today. I was told to try the robusto sized Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic. My first time for this cigar brand. I am looking forward to it. The package also contained a RP edge and an Olivia Serie G. These are 2 other smokes I haven't had either. Just like Mike, today was a hellacious day. Woke up after sleeping 3 hours ill prepared for an exam. Just got home and I am looking forward to this smoke. Ironically I need to smoke this Rocky Patel before Saturday as he will be at my BM for the owners birthday. I have an email of costs of RP boxes as they are running a huge sale. Emaile me if interested. Grabbing a drink and a chair. Review will be later. Thanks, Matt

My review is going to be simple, as I am no expert in tastes and flavor. I know what I like and dislike thats about it. The Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic robusto is a great cigar. DRAW/BURN: 31/33 Overall great draw and perfectly rolled. I did not need to put much effort into this cigar to get a mouthful of smoke. It burned utterly perfect from beginning to end, much like the great cuban cigars where this cigar pulls its name. Flavor: 31/33 Upon first lighting the cigar I noticed some strong flavors of cedar. It mellowed out after about 3 minutes and smoked medium to almost strong till the end. I would say this is a great substitute for a non-cuban smoke. Overall impression: 30/34 Total cigar rating = 92 = Ironically I think this is what CA gave it for its 2007 rating. For the cost and what I got out of this cigar, I would say its a great cigar for the money. I will probably keep these in my new humidor when I get some room. Thanks for the pass. This cigar made my bad day a much better night. Matt

Many thanks!
I hope you enjoy it as it is one of my favorite NC's! I'm interested to see an honest review by one of CA's senior members...
I'm going to light this up in about a week. I'm having some dental surgery done today, so I won't be able to smoke until Wednesday or Thursday next week - but this gives me something to which to look forward...
So many cigars, so little time...

Glad you enjoyed it, the whole box has been smoking extremely well, imho.

This is my first review so bare with me here. I just finished a Cabiguan Guapo sent by Mr. Goodfella. This was my first Cabiguan of any kind. Here's what I have to say:
Pre-lit draw: The temp was 68 degrees with a 5 mph wind, a great night to enjoy a smoke. I started the smoke at 9:08 with my trusty dog by my side and the wife in bed. The draw was very fluid and easy. The stick was firm with no soft spots at all. I tasted a little eartyness with cedar and hints of cherry. My torch lighter decided not to work this evening and is becoming unreliable, I need to look into something else. I went ahead and used a match to start her up. I first torched the end before firing her up. It took me two matches to get going. My choice of drink for this evening was a Budweiser Select which I thought would pair well with this mild/medium smoke.
1/3: The first draw was a little harsh with an earthy taste. A medium amount of smoke was flowing out easily. I quickly had an oak like taste in the back of my throat. The Cabiguan mellowed out about half an inch in. The smoke started to build as I got further in to the first 1/3. Toward the end I picked up on hints of cherry.
2/3: A stronger oak flavor was present. I could tell this smoke was tightly wound as I was 2 inches in and still had not ashed. The Cabiguan was becoming more mellow with less of a harshness in the throat. Starting to feel it kick in my stomach. This baby finally ashed about 3 inches into it.
3/3: A choclately taste developed with a slight char flavor. The smoke was starting to really come out now. The 2nd ash fell with about 2 inches to go. The draw was still cool almost down to the nub. Finally put it out with about 1.5 inches to go as the flavor was becoming harsh. Finshed the smoke at 10:02.
Conclusion: The burn was pefect the entire time. I was really impressed with how well the ash stayed intact. I think this could be a contender in a longest ash competition. I really enjoyed this smoke all the way to the end. I would give this cigar a 91 rating. While it was not overly powerful I never felt like I was wanting more out of it. I'm not sure what the price of this cigar would be. I really wouldn't mind having a stash of these in my humi.
Mr. G, thanks for the great pass and smoke. I enjoyed trying something new!

i had this nice review all written up for the serie v torpedo that joseph sent me and then i lost connection and lost my post so in short, the cigar was veiny with some splits at the foot, which was probably due to a rough ride. the draw was great, nice woodsy flavors with a little spice to start. a very pronounced coffee flavor going into the second third, and a slight cocao flavor as it proceeded into the final third. nice, complex smoke, i was smoking with my dad so i might have missed a few nuances of the smoke that id usually pick up on, but i really enjoyed the smoke. it was only the second or third torpedo ive had from the line so it was a very good smoke in my book. i need to stockpile a few next time i take a trip to my local shop. id give this a 90 because of the construction and slight burn problems but i can definitely see why CA gave it a 93. it was a very good stick. thanks Joseph! i also received a CAO brazilia piranha and a Fuente rothschild maduro which i cant wait to try. right now i dont have a "short smoke" so those two are a good place to start for that category. i really enjoyed the stick and would definitly be down for a reverse pass.

Appa69, Your package went out yesterday, sorry for the delay I had to go out of town on Friday. I will send you an email with the tracking number. I also received my smokes from ldfkr14 (Matt) this weekend while I was away. I received a Oliva series V, Fonseca Cubano Limitado and a Kristoff. I am not sure which Matt would like me to review, I have not smoked any of them before! Great smokes, thank you very much!

Bullriver, Why don't you review the Olivia Series V one. We already got 1 review on it, so we can compare notes. Matt

I finally got a chance to enjoy CP's La Aurora Preferido Emerald a few days ago.
I must say, this was one good cigar. The construction was flawless, the shape was perfect. It cut like a beauty and had an amazing draw. It lit up quite easily, probably because the foot is very small, but it stayed lit the entire time. The burn got a little uneven at one point, but quickly corrected itself and stayed straight for the rest of the smoke. My taste buds aren't as seasoned as others, so just go with me on this part. It started out a little spicy, and then smoothed out after about 1/2 an inch. At this point I got some cedar notes with a hint of coffee. The spiciness would show up here and there, but was a pleasant surprise when it did. I think I might have had some quick hints of cocoa as well, but very quickly here and there. It took me about an hour and a half to get to a point where I had to unfortunately put it out. For the duration of the smoke, it produced great smoke, and had great flavor. I would personally rate this a 91. I'm very glad CP sent me two so that I will be able to enjoy another.

I will be out of town, but I have not seen too many new posts out here from all the people that received their cigars. Thanks, Matt
