I have an idea for a pass for December instead of a R.A.T.S. and I wanted to run it by you guys.

We get 13 guys to participate.

Each guy sends in 6 cigars of PIF/RATS quality.

I package the cigars roughly according to the song "12 Days of Christmas." So there will be "1 Cohiba Robusto, 2 Punch Gran Puros, 3 Figuarados, etc."

Names of the participants are drawn randomly and the cigars are sent out in time so that they will arrive before their given day.

On each day the recipient announces their cigars in a post, "12 Cigars of Christmas."

On Christmas Day there will not only be the 12th day of Christmas, but also the Bah Humbug Scrooge prize to be determined later.

If everyone sends 6 cigars, that means 5 people will get fewer sticks than they contributed, one will break even, 6 would get more than they sent in and 1 prize TBD.

What do you guys think? Too complicated? Not balanced? I'd divide the cigars accordingly so that the low number guys (1-5) would get the most rare and best cigars (Opus, Anejo, Cubans, etc). I'd list all participants names in order and then number them, then use some arbitrary system to determine order (say the final digit of the NYSE on a given day). This way nobody could accuse me of rigging it. The Bah Humbug prize could be anything, say cigar accesories, a gag gift, etc.

I'M NOT SOLICITING PLAYERS RIGHT NOW! I just want opinions...fire away!

I think I would be in for this one. Your contributions don't have to all be the same ie -6 Gran Puros, right?

What Rules apply? Post count? Abbot rule?

I'm not sure how you get cigars that could be grouped together for days 4-12.

Right, send any 6 cigars of PIF/RATS quality, which is basically governed by karma. I'd regroup them into groups of cigars numbering from 1-12 and make sure that even though the cigars are split up, the people getting them would know who they came from. So if you sent me 6 assorted cigars for example, 3 might go into say a group called "7 Seldom Seen Smokes." The note sent in the pack would read, "1 1972 CC Monte #2 from Srage, 1 Partagas 150 from BMOC, etc."

Rules would be the same as RATS as far as participation.

Good questions guys. That is why I am posting this first, to work out the kinks and gauge interest. I'm willing to change and tweak things to make it all happen, I just need other people thinking this through and asking the stuff I might miss.

I think no matter what, the guys who draw 1, 2 and maybe even 3 will get screwed.

In theory 1 rare cigar would equal 3 good but not so rare cigars. However, chances are you'll get a handful of pretty damn good smokes and maybe the person getting 3 will end up with 3 similar smokes to the person getting 1.

I think with the quality of peple that participate in these trades, you'll receive too many damn good smokes and it'll be unbalanced.

Yeah, it's a lottery, that's the idea. Not every one will break even. There is always the chance however that you will end up with 11 or 12 cigars. The odds here of coming out even/ahead are better than Vegas. And even if you don't match your initial contribution, you wouldn't walk away empty handed.

The only reason I mentioned the "good cigars" for 1,2,3, etc. was I wanted people to realize that I know there is an inherent risk, but I would try and balance it as much as possible.

For example if someone donated a Carlos Fuente Sr. autographed Fuente Opus X Perfexcion A. that would be say the #1 cigar. I know people here who might think it's worth a half dozen VSG and CC for that. Of course we won't know what the cigars are in advance, but I'm just saying, this group always delivers and the potential is there.

In keeping with the 12 Days of Christmas theme though, I just didn't know how to get the distribution right. This was my best idea.

And Chris confused? Whay am I not surprised?

Look at it this way...we bomb our buddies all the time without expecting anything in return right? Why not just consider this a blind, holiday themed-bomb that might come back at you doubled?

So it looks like there is some interest, Wacco excluded.

Any ideas for the Bah Humbug prize?

Have some very nice ideas for the Bah Humbug prize. If I join, the BHP become my responsibility . . . .

Well we have another taker. I'll keep that in mind BMOC.

I was thinking that the BHP could be machine-mades. Everyone send one machine made and then the BHP recipient has to smoke them and tell us how they were.

Binder,

Just a thought....

Are you footing the bill on the shipping, or should each pack have say, a five spot in it???

The shipping thing crossed my mind but I'm not too worried. If people wanted to send a couple of dollars, cool, but otherwise, no problem.
