A recent trip to Chicago left me longing for New York. Not the new New York, but the old New York.
My all-too-short trip to Chicago left me with the firm belief that the Windy City is one of America's best cigar towns, bar none. Let me give you a whirlwind tour just to give you a taste...
...For those of you living elsewhere, I heartily recommend a visit. And for you lucky souls in Chicago, I'm jealous. I hope you realize how good you have it and do everything you can to keep it that way.
Damn right.

I'll probably get banned for disagreeing with Mr Savona , but try Orlando, Tampa, or Miami.....
I lived in the Chicago metro area for 24+ years, and get up there to visit friends and family every now and then (and get lost). While they've cleaned it up a lot since I lived there (late '50s - early '80s), there's no comparison with Florida....yes, there are a few nice places to sit and enjoy a smoke in Chicago, but overall, there are no where near as many as in Florida's metro areas....plus you usually don't have to pay an arm-and-a-leg-a-cigar to enjoy the privilege of lighting up. I have access to AT LEAST thirty cigar shops that I am aware of (and more seem to pop up all the time) within a fifty mile radius of where I live (and that doesn't encompass Tampa), plus, there is no tobacco tax in Florida (what is it in Kalifornia +150% ?).... I always look forward to getting back to the Sunshine State.
In my personal experience, Chicago is far less cigar friendly than any of the three cities I mentioned.....and as far as you poor souls in "Bloomberg's Gulag" or the Socialist Republic of Kalifonia....I really feel for you guys....

orlando? tampa? are you kidding me? my vote is with Chi-town on this one. my top cities, in no order, would be chicago, boston, san fran and NYC....but smoking laws do kill them. but from a non-smoking standpoint, i love 'em.

...well, you're from BAAston....so I'm not surprised (I better drop this....I'm sure to get bounced if I keep this up....)
Seriously...we all have our favorite places....Chicago has many good (and a lot of bad) memories....I really loved San Fran until the fruitcakes took over Kalifornia....Boston has some great memories (had a couple of girlfriends up there), but I don't know how you put up with the F&C%ed up traffic (Big Dig still going on?....thought so).
Anyway...every city has its share of good and bad ...it all depends on what you like to do. (except Fargo ND; if you've ever been there....you'll know what I mean...and if you live there....Why?)
Nice to live in a country that offers everybody a choice, no matter what floats your boat.....

all good points and yes traffic still blows, we haven't milked enough money out of you tax payers yet for the wicked big dig.
I grew up here and love it, but i spent four years in VA, VA Tech, for college. before college i visited europe a couple times and wanted to see more...but the best thing about leaving new england for some other place in the US was that it showed me that i needed to see a lot more of this country before going overseas. beautiful country indeed. hey chicago...snag any Sox/Cubs tickets? My bro flew out there for the game. I'd love to be in Wrigley for this series. I've heard they are scalpling pretty high...

Being a lifelong Chicagoan it does my heart good to see people from all over the country sing the praises of this great city. As has been mentioned we don't, YET, have unreasonable tobacco prohibitions and one can easily find cigar friendly places to smoke.
David Savona; Next time in town, do yourself a favor and go to Taylor street and try some of the fine eateries there. None finer, IMO, than the Rosebud. This area had fallen on hard times but is now enjoying a gentrification and is now a must go to spot especially for folks of Italian descent.
Bombadier; This match up between the Red Sox and Cubbies has been the hottest ticket since the schedule was released. Everyone wants to go, yet, tickets are always available outside the stadium.
BTW, many folks are touting this series as a replay of the 1918 World Series and the first time that they have met in Wrigley since then. Wrong! The Cubs moved to Comiskey for the series so they could pack more fans into that larger venue. So this is really the first time that they have met at Wrigley.
