I quit my job last week, Sunday was my last day. During the last week of employment, I was handing out my resume to many local restaurants. Im refusing to go to a chain restaurant. All I heard from them was that my resume was impressive, but we're full right now. Not really suprised.

Being pretty depressed about all of this, I go to a B&M that is basically a competitor of a cigar club that I'm a member of. I noticed a Help Wanted sign and asked about it. The manager said that he had about 10 applicants and asked for my information. He knows that I frequent the store and know about cigars and basically said the job is mine if I want it, but its only going to be one day a week and one weekend a month. It doesnt matter, a job is a job and its going to have to do. He told me to keep working there and keep looking for other jobs because he knows its not enough and that he would schedule around my other job whenever I find one.

Anyway, yesterday was my first day, and it was the easiest day of my life. The only work I have to do is ring people up when someone is there buying stuff, and occasionally fixing up the shelves. Other than that I just sit down and watch TV and smoke. The manager made a list of 15 cigars and told me to look for the singles and then for the boxes. Since I'm more or less a regular there, it only took about 20 minutes to track everything down. Then there were only 4 people that came in during my shift so I did about 30 minutes of real work for a 5 hour shift.

I do have to say that it got quite boring and I felt winded just sitting down in the smoking lounge after about 20 miuntes. The manager said that if I want, I can bring my computer, talk on the phone, text, whatever, but when there are customers, I have to set that stuff aside. Not a bad trade off if you ask me.

Congrats! Sounds like a nice relaxing gig. Are you allowed some freeby singles every once in a while or do you have to pay for every cigar you spark up?

I have a locker where I can store my smokes. I can bring in whatever I want to smoke. I get a 25% discount on whatever I buy, so thats another nice bonus.

The boss did give me a bag with about 6 cigars in it, but theyre mostly dog rockets I think. He got them from the show in New Orleans.

Sort of like getting paid to smoke cigars and talk with customers about cigars. Great!

Sounds like an awesome job, I wouldn't mind that at all.

Congrats, sounds great. Interesting though, there is a help wanted sign in my local B&M too. Been there for a month. You would think in this economy, it would have been snapped up by now.

I hope your boss does not participate in the CA forum. Several Facebook users have lost their jobs after they trashed their boss on Facebook, and forgetting that they were FB friends with the boss. Doh!

Cor: Steve, you have proven yourself to be a tremendous whack job.

Boss thinks that Shanken is an idiot. I have no plans on getting fired ever there. No reason for them to fire me.

Penguin, I work on Thursdays and one weekend a month so far. When ever you guys want, come down whenever. You guys have my number.
