We recycle as a matter of course - the city provides recycling bins, and picks them up each week.
I traded a V8 Dodge truck for a MINI Cooper - a lot more fun, and twice the mileage. If I need a truck for a specific project, I rent one - there's no need to drive one 30 miles each way to work when I only need the capacity about once a month.
And... I'm considering turning the MINI into a weekend car and getting a hybrid for the commute during the week. Twice the mileage of the MINI, plus a tax credit, an additional credit from my employer, and I get to use the LEV-reserved spaces in the parking garage at the office.
We're also re-doing the insulation in our attic and upgrading the attic fan - again, it's green, and it saves us money every month in utility bills.
So what's my point? Only that going green is actually saving me money every month - in gas and utility bills, and with tax credits if I buy a hybrid.

Hey, I just figured out where greenhouse gases come from.
Greenhouses.
Nah Steve you've just bought into the cows's propaganda. They eat, they fart, and they lie to us about global warming. Don't trust them further than you could kick them.

I read somewhere that, due to the waste and transportation costs associated with battery manufacturing, hybrid vehicles actually have more wide-reaching ill effects on the environment than clean diesels. In fact, I saw a comparison that claimed -- in the long run -- that a Hummer H2 was actually friendlier to the planet as a whole than a Toyota Prius.
Now, don't get me wrong. As battery technology evolves, hybrids will out-green just about everything. And naturally, we need to keep building them for that evolution to happen.
But for right now, if I was feeling the whole green thing, I'd probably go diesel. Being a VW guy, that Touraeg W10 Twin Turbo sounds damn fine...massive towing capacity, massive torque, and over 20mpg! Unfortunately, it's also around $90,000 but it ain't easy bein' green!

I'd love to get a new diesel, but with Europe holding on to more and more their diesel supplies, the price per gallon makes even 92 (91 in California) look cheap. The MPG benefits of diesel are nullified by extremely high prices.

Everyone thinking about buying a Hybrid vehicle thinking that they are going to save the planet, yadda yadda, I suggest starting at a more basic level - for one thing, the biggest and most serious source of pollution in most modern sections of the world is electricity generation.
If people would turn out their lights, install and use dimmers, and even start using more efficient bulbs, that would make a much bigger impact. Try turning down you hot water heater a few degrees. And check your window and door seals.

Yeah, but you can't wear those. Now, if Cameron Diaz could figure out how to make a fashion statement out of her water heater temperature, then you'd really be onto something.
