Smoked a churchill-sized '99 last night. It comes across as a very ordinary CT-shade cigar. The white bands look nice against the pale, dry-ish wrapper. Construction, burn and draw were near perfect and the flavor was very mellow and pleasant, but in the end, it's not notably better or worse than Fonseca, Ashton, etc. It also bears no resemblance to the Vintage 90 and 92 in terms of flavor, whereas the Edge Lite has some of the Edge's character in a lighter bodied smoke.
All that said, I'd WAY rather support Rocky than the big conglomerates, so if I were in the market for a premium mild cigar, I'd certainly make an effort to find one of these. It's very good for what it is, just not exceptional.
Thanks for the info. As I love the 90 & 92, I have been wondering about the 99. While I will probably give it a try some day, sounds like these is no need to rush if the flavor is that different from the 90/92s.
