I recently set up a humidor (a few weeks ago) and the temperature inside the humidor runs at about 72-73 degrees. In a few cases I have seen the temp as high as 75!
I talked with a few friends at a cigar shop and they said, "Oh a few degrees over 70 isnt bad at all). Yet when I read articles, especially some of the ones on this site that I found in my searches, state the following, "A humidor should stay somewhere within the narrow range of 68-70 degrees".
I tend to believe these articles are giving me the correct advice. So the next question is, how do I maintain a cooler temperature inside my humidor. I recently moved it to a different location in my house, and that didnt work (temp still at 72). Last night I moved it again. If I can't seem to find a good location in my house is there another way of lowering the temp inside a humidor?
72 is fine, don't fret. Cuban or non-Cuban cigars? I would worry more with Cuban cigars if that's what you store, but like your shop said, a couple of degrees won't hurt.
Don't worry......room temperature is fine. Besides, I don't think I could afford the electric bill in the summer living in Texas to keep the humi between 68-70. My humidor only sees those conditions a few months during the winter. No problems here
Like the other guys have said, that temp is nothing to worry about. Mine has been as high as 78 in the summertime. Currently it's reading at 72.3 degrees. Your big concern is always with the level of humidity more than temperature. A high level of humidity is much worse than a high temp. A combination of the two (high humidity and temp) is the real bad news. Enjoy your smokes!

I have about 1000 cigars and mine hover around 72-76 in the warm months and 68-72 in the winter.
As long as you avoid extremes, cigars can survive high/low temps for short periods. I carry cigars in a case when I go for a night on the town. Now these cigars are in a leather case in my sportcoat breast pocket, sometimes for a few hours while I sit through dinner before I smoke them. I assure you they are well over 80 degrees for a short period. They always smoke just fine.
Ditto when I have left cigars in the car for short periods in both winter and summer.
Temperature is less important than humidity. Keep your humidity between 65-70% and you will be fine.

Thanks Doc! I have a wine cabinet exactly like that. Maybe I will store them in there? It might be a bit too chilly in there though. In any case, I moved the humidor to the top of my bookshelf near the ceiling fan and viola! Today the temp was at 71 so I am heading in the right direction.
Oh and not only are these NOT cuban cigars, I have never even had the pleasure of smoking a cuban cigar.
