Forgive my Newb-ness but I gotta quick question for the more seasoned smokers. I've had a Monte #2 in my humi for a while and have been saving it to smoke on either my Birthday (Feb 19th) or to celebrate the birth of my First child. This is my first MC#2 and everyone seems to hold them in high esteem, I want to pick a drink that will best compliment it. The baby hasn't decided to show it's face yet so it looks like the Monte's gettin burnt tomorrow. What drink do you guys prefer with the #2's? I have a bottle of Havana Club 7 year that I was thinking will work best, but I'd grab something else if anybody knows of something better suited.

HC 7 Years is fine! And congratulations on your first kid! I know how it is, pretty exhilirating and at the same time, what a vertigo...

And don't worry about your newb-ness, when you get to Kid No.3 (as I have) you'll know what to drink with your cigar (and you'll know that you want a lot of it).

Congrats on your first child. What are you having a boy or a girl?

We never did find out, so it'll be one of the true surprises in life. The due date is March 4th but it could be any day between now and then. I do know I will be having many a celebration cigar. I received a box of Cohiba Esplendido's as a gift from a colleague who has property in Cuba and goes there every 4-6 weeks. I have basically just got into Cigar smoking since he came to work at my minesite last fall. Coincidentally the mine's name is Cigar Lake. He's my 'Cuban Pipeline' now, he has enough cigars in his humi for himself so now he is helping me fill mine. Talk about a great job perk!!

Or you could pare the Monti #2 with an American Bourbon, say a Wild Turkey Rare Breed, or Rip Van Winkle 12 or 15 year old.

Also, this is kind of an individual taste thing with cigars and spirits. I would recommend trying a few different spirits and see what you like best.

Congrats on the up-coming birth.

Regards,

Steve

I'm with you, when I have my first child I don't want to know the gender. As you said, it'll be one of the best surprises in life.

First, Happy Birthday.

A Monte #2 is a medium to moderately powerful cigar, depending on how you classify cigars.

Personally I would enjoy it with a glass of cognac, and if it were my birthday (and I had access) it would be one of the finer cognacs, such as Hennessy Pardis or even a Louis XVI.

Of course it is YOUR birthday so drink what you enjoy.

Of course if you can afford the Louis XVI, go for it. But there are many reasonably priced cognacs, such as a Hennessy VS, or just about any XO. I do like a XO with a Monti, good call.

Regards,

Steve

I do believe its Louis XIII, but in any case, as Steve says, go for it if you can afford the $1200 price tag.

Well, I should have posted this earlier. I went to the Liquor Store to pick up a bottle of premium Cognac and it was closed due to a new 'Family Day' Stat holiday that is recognized here (this being the first year). In the Province I live in, you can only buy most liquor (premium especially) in gov't stores. Damnit, well I guess I have to 'settle' for HC7.
