I would personally recommend a good Kosher Gherkin with turkey on rye sandwich as therapy.

Works for me when I am angry.

BTW: I did a search for Gherkin and there were no past topics. Whew!

Not that he needs it, but I have to take up for Extensioncord here. I have learned a great deal of information about cigars just from skimming his posts and cigar blog. His reviews and suggestions are always very accurate. Keep it up Ecord. I am confident I am not the only member of this forum that appreciates your input.

Make that two guys with Iwo avatars who support Ecord.

It's not that you cannot revisit a topic in order to revive it from a different angle, or simply to get an update on what people think, it's that the whole Gurkha thing was recently discussed, and the original post in this thread seems blissfully unaware of that, asking the same tired question.

And yes, it's just an opinion, but Gurkha cigars really are a joke, marketed for novices and the naive, and preferably those with money to "buy" a notion of prestige and taste. If you happen to be one of the few people who really like Gurkhas and do not fall into those categories, then enjoy.

E-cord does great reviews, no doubt about that.

Anyway, here's an example. I was at the reservation today and all the Gurkha cigars were still over $10 and that's without taxes. At the same time, you could get DPG black, blue, white, and some special edition for less. You could also get VSG's for less, Padron 64's for less, Hemingway maduro's for less, etc. I think most people will tell you all these cigars are better.

Hell, if you want a hype cigar, they had all the Greycliff cigars for $5. I bought one just to try, but I don't know how it'll be.

For kicks, does anyone know what the CA or any other respected rating is for His Majesty's Reserve?

Anyways, to jms' point, i bought a Graycliff Vintage 1999 sampler for a pretty good price on cbid. Not a bad smoke.

Go over to "top25cigar.com" for some reviews.

As for Gurkha, I will echo the same sentiments as before. They don't have any special characteristics that cause them to stand out for the price. I would go for CT Exodus Gold or Silver any day (or any other Torano, Smilehaha), over Gurkha.

I got roped into the whole Gurkha thing when I first started smoking regular as well. Only ones I even consider smoking now are the legend with some sit down time, The Napalese Warrior, and (surprisingly) the Grand Master Dos Capas. All the other ones didn't really do a whole lot for me. Like was mentioned before don't smoke them to look good smoke them because you like them. I've found very cheap smokes on CI and other places that are like a dollar or 2 a stick and still smoke great. Case in point: I like the Nestor Reserve Torpedo. Some say that it leaves thier mouth black because of dye but I've never run into that, so I dismiss it. On the other hand I have a few MC#2's that I enjoy as well. Yeah you're probably going to get better quality if you spend more but are you going to enjoy THAT stick. Just keep an open mind when smoking and you'll come into your own.

Bottom line, as always:

de gustibus non est disputandum!
