Congradulations.
Nice make Remington.
You get a ventilated rib? Chambered for what<
What gauge? Magnum? What do you hunt with it. Here its 3 shots max for migratory birds. Small game is more. I' ve seen 5.

I've got an old 870 12gauge that I bought used 20 years ago. Ive dropped it, fallen with it, changed barrels, redone the stock 3 or 4 times, and have hunted everthing from squirls to bear with it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have. It is my favorite gun. Actually it is the only shotgun I have ever owned. Ive never had a reason to to even think about buying another shot gun. Happy hunting

You will love your 870. That is a tried and tested design that has lasted nearly 50 years and has no ending in sight. My department still uses them because they are so reliable. I love the look and feel of my Beretta over and unders, but I still get a feeling of nastalgia when I pick up an 870. That was my first shotgun that my dad bought me in the 7th grade. It may not be as pretty as either of my $3000 Beretta's, but I can still fill a game bag with just as many birds with it.

Sounds like your going to use it for home defense with the 8 round mag capacity. Buy yourself a mixture of No. 1 buck and low recoil slugs. Go practice with it. Dont just let it collect dust waiting for intruders. Practice reloading in low light conditions. Check out the surefire forends with the 60 lumen light built in. They are the only way to go for home defense.

OUTSTANDING!!! In a pump riot shotgun I like the Remington 870 the best. Outstanding choice. Wink

In Alabama there is no waiting period for rifles and shotguns only the federal forced waiting period for handguns. I hate waiting periods I own 48 weapons one is a federal licenced full auto submachine gun I have a concealed weapons permit and a badge/ID as a reserve Police Officer, a NRA certified Handgun and personal Protection Instructor, and a Secior NCO in the Army National Guard with a secret Security Clearence and work full time for the State, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO WAIT SEVERAL DAYS after I buy a handgun before I can pick it up. Its a stupid law that is just another liberal anti-gun law that is ment to turn my second amendment right into toilet paper. Mad

I got an 870 youth model in 20ga two years ago, to use for giving classes and for my daughters to shoot clays periodically. It's good to see the 'classic' of pump guns lives on and on.

In NJ, we don't have a wait period, but you have to apply for a pistol purchase permit everytime you want to buy a handgun. You can get as many as you want, but it takes anywhere from a few days to over a month to get them , depending on the prick-factor in your municipality. I usually get three at a time, whether or not I'm planning to get multiple 'toys'. I would have thought that the implementation of the NICs check would do away with waiting periods, but I guess I'm wrong.

Certifications, CCWs and even retired LEO doesn't seem to get anyone around these rules anymore. Remember to vote correctly in upcoming elections. Especially in NJ.

Yeah NJ is f*d up. At one point I had a NJ Retail license (pink card) and had to go through all the same rigamarole as a permit holder. The funny thing was I didn't have a permit at the time, so if I was behind the counter selling a gun, no problem, but I couldn't go to the other side of the counter and look at a gun to purchase!

Hey 'Fish; Great choice! I have one myself, an all black "Tactical" flavor - 7+1 with a sidesaddle that holds six more, high-viz fiber-optic front sight and sure-light mounted with a remote switch. You can't beat a 12 gauge for keeping the home-front protected.

We're lucky in Florida, no waiting period for long arms, and a three-day wait for handguns, and you don't need the individual permits for each as in many other states. With a CCW (which both my wife and I have), there are no waiting periods at all.....just a phone call for the NICS check, and that's it.

Raven: I have my Class II & Class III as well....suppressed MP5K, and a couple of other toys.

Sorry, I typed in the wrong place evidently.

I have been hunting & a gun owner since I was old enough to remember. Don't even come close to your gun collection but wish I did, however I disagree with your thoughts on the 3 day "cool down" wait period on handguns. If it saves just one life then it's worth enforcing even though responsible gun owners like yourself have to be inconvenienced a few days.
I also have handguns.

BTW, I respect & appreciate the service & protection the law enforcement, military, firemen, etc. provide.

End._

Punched:.....does the three day "cool down" period make sense for someone who already has multiple firearms?...I think that was the point of Raven's rant. So many gun laws are just not logical, and only harass honest gun owners....and perpetuate a bureaucracy....
Gun control is not about safety, it's about Control.

...And sorry, but the "if it save's one life" argument doesn't hold water either. There are many documented cases where people (women in particular) have been killed during the waiting period when they sought to purchase a firearm for protection against a known threat (wacko boyfriend, etc).

Sorry to jack the thread....I just get tired of hearing the same old saws that make no logical sense whatsoever.
Cool

How does a gun shop know if you still have guns?

And the 3 day cool down holds water because you don't hear about murder cases it may have prevented.

I am all for gun ownership for hunting & personal protection.

Sorry Badfish for getting off topic.

Congrats & them cigar cutter downers had better watch out in 9 days!

I got the Shotgun mostly for Home defence.
Its the 12 Gauge Model that hold 7 and 1
I live real close to an outdoor range in the hills
behind my home so i'll get plenty of time
to play with her. A buddy of mine does go Quail
hunting, so i might try my hand at that.

I am a card carrying life member of the NRA. In my youthful days I sparked gun debates against my junior high instructors which at one point drew the NRA hierachy into the mix. Besides for writing about the outdoors in the local newspaper, being the state's head hunter safety instructor, and interacting with the NRA hierarchy on a regular basis, my dad also worked on Saturdays in a local gun shop where I would spend a lot of those weekends.

A 10 day wait seems extremely excessive. A 3 day cooling down period makes sense for a first gun purchase but makes absolutely no sense for someone who already owns one. If it was going to be used for an unlawful purpose, the buyer could use a weapon already in thier possession. I also think some exceptions need to be made to that law. For example, women who have filed for restraining orders should be provided a way to purchase a weapon for protection without the wait. Of course this will never happen because the anti-gun nuts (and yes, THEY are the nuts) would have to admit that the protection theory of gun ownership is valid...something they argue against every chance they get. In all those Saturdays I can not recall one person who looked like anything but a hunter or collector.

Growing up in Wisconsin the only thing a person had to do was fill out the yellow federal form. A shotgun was able to be taken immediately and a handgun had to wait 48 hours. Was the yellow form handled any differently? Nope. They all went into the same box under the cash register. At banquets if you won a raffle or auction, they would hold onto the guns until the end of the night and then you'd fill out the form and walk out with a gun. Of course this was the other extreme to the 10 day wait.

It is too bad that we have become a country ruled by special interests which result in extreme laws for a population that largely lives in the middle. Two of the biggest arguments are the gun debate (Enforce existing laws but let law abiding citizens buy an unlimited number of guns and carry them around freely vs. Guns belong in law enforcement hands only unless you jump through hoops for 2 years and then you may get one) and the abortion debate (Acceptable for any reason vs. not for any reason including the safety of the mother). Can anyone around here say that they wholely support any of those four arguments?

Back to the thread at hand...A great purchase indeed. Aside for my Ruger Red Label I got as a gift for my 10th birthday, I own exclusively Remingtons. As long as you take care of it properly it should last for years.
