I started smoking pipes a little after cigars and I really like them. They are a little cheaper than cigars and are a nice change of pace. It is quite an accomplishment to get "good" at smoking a pipe. I remember having to relight ten or more times in the beginning but now it only takes the initial light then midway a tamp and a light and I can smoke the whole thing. I have a corcob pipe two briars a Savaneli and a Peterson. My favorite is the Savaneli. I enjoy cigars and pipes though
I started pipe smoking back in 01. I have around 40 pipes,my favorites are Former, Barbi, Winslow, Castello, Viprati and Dunhill. My favorite line of tobaccos is GL Pease, but I also have tons of other blends.I only smoke in the winter when it cools off here in Florida.

I think pipes probably outnumber cigars in the UK, pipe smoking is seen as slightly more "common" where cigars are seen as "upper class" or "elitist."

GL Pease makes some nice leaf. They are one of the manufacturers whose blends highlight the leaf without toppings (flavorings) and they make many English style blends.
Ive only had one G.L. Pease blend and that is Barbary Coast. I like it but need to try some more. I have a box of Barking Dog, mainly bought it for the pic of the Boston Terrier on the front because I have one. Ive had it for about a year, is it good stuff or just keep it sealed for Deco??

Hmmm never heard of that one. What is the blend made up of? Cyprian? Virginia? Perique?
I think its an English blend. Its made by House of Windsor, Ive heard most of their stuff is subpar but that this particular on is pretty decent. I'll have to re-look at what the actual blend is.

I misread your post and thought you were stating Barking Dog was a Pease blend. Actually I have heard of Windsor and you would be correct in the subpar description. I smoked a bowl of one of their blends that was a sweetened English and it was nasty, don't think it was Barking Dog though. It was so rank I chucked the 'cob I sampled it in because I couldn't get the fruity donkey-ass flavor to go away.
Well for some reason fall always gets me smoking my pipe more often. I thought it was time to top this and get the pipe tobacco discussions flowing again!
I've had only a couple bowlfuls since England, but something about cool weather always get sme smoking a pipe more often than cigars. I know some do it because pipe smoke is more indoors friendly, but I moke indoors year round. Maybe it's just the way it feels when the fireplace is going and a nice pouch of something rich, dark and smokey, a box of matches and knowing you have all night to just sit back an enjoy.
