I've been living in downtown brooklyn for a year now and smoking in my backyard or on the prominade is starting to get old... and lonely. Anyone know any good cigar places in downtown brooklyn to go?

Any clubs?

I wish I did. I understand that Velvet Cigars, located on E. 7th St. in Manhattan, will soon open a location next to Peter Luger. Velvet bills itself as a cigar lounge, technically a retail shop, that in Manhattan serves wine, beer, and their own rolled-on-site cigars.

THere's a few places in Park Slope with backyward gardens that allow smoking. I've never had a cigar in one, though. And it's Park Slope. Headquarters of the Self-Righteous Stroller brigade.

If you hear of anything, please, please, please post it.

Do you buy your cigars at Barneys?

With all the lawyers and judges in the area there must be a smoking lounge someplace. Why not ask at Barneys. The manager there should know.

Barneys? As in the clothing store? (Sorry, not familiar with any other Barneys.) You know, the trouble is that if you're a cigarette smoker, you can always just go out into the street for five minutes and suck one down. But if you're a cigar smoker, that isn't a desirable option. There's no pleasure in that. It isn't about the nicotine fix, after all, it's about the lovely weed itself and all the attendant pleasures.

Guess Brooklyn cigarists will just have to make the schlep into Manhattan...

I found barney's online but tried going there the other day and couldn't find the right address... going to have to call them.

Scott, Barney's is listed as a cigar place on Court St.

Barneys is right on the corner of Court and Livingstone (I think).

It's part of a junk store, but the humidor in the back is well stocked with just about anything you want including OPUS X
