This isn't intended to be a political thing... it's just funny. Wink

Bush's latest blunder
By This is London
6 August 2004
When you are in the middle of a battle to win an election it's probably not a good idea to threaten the voters. But George Bush did just that as he added to his long list of verbal blunders in a speech.

Look here too!

• More 'Bushisms'

In a televised speech yesterday, President Bush told a roomful of top Pentagon officials that his administration would never stop looking for ways to hurt America and its people.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we," Bush said.

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

In a previous election campaign, Bush made another gaff when he said: 'A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls.'

The Republican leader is facing a tough challenge from Democrat John Kerry before November's election.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

'I understand small business growth. I was one.'

'I hope the ambitious realise that they are more likely to succeed with
success as opposed to failure.'

'Will the highways on the internet become more few?'

Trying to describe his brand of compassionate conservatism: 'I've got a record, a record that is conservative and a record that is compassionated.'

'Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children.'

'I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future.'

'I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican.'

'When I have been asked who caused the riots and the killing in LA, my answer
has been direct and simple: Who is to blame for the riots? The rioters are to
blame. Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to blame.'

'A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls.'

'It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in
our air and water that are doing it.'

'I don't know whether I'm going to win or not. I think I am. I do know I'm
ready for the job. And, if not, that's just the way it goes.'

'I am a person who recognises the fallacy of humans.'

'One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic
pictures.'

'Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things.'

'One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is "to be prepared".'

'Drug therapies are replacing a lot of medicines as we used to know it.'

A foreign policy priority: 'Keep good relations with the Grecians.'

'One of the common denominators I have found is that expectations rise above
that which is expected.'

'Well, I think if you say you're going to do something and don't do it,
that's trustworthiness.'

'They said: "You know, this issue doesn't seem to resignate with the people."
And I said, you know something? Whether it resignates or not doesn't matter
to me, because I stand for doing what's the right thing, and what the right
thing is hearing the voices of people who work.'

'I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.'

'We'll let our friends be the peacekeepers and the great country called
America will be the pacemakers.'

'I think we agree, the past is over.'

'We cannot let terrorists and rogue nations hold this nation hostile or hold
our allies hostile.'

'The senator (John McCain) has got to understand if he's going to have he
can't have it both ways. He can't take the high horse and then claim the low
road.'

'The most important job is not to be Governor, or First Lady in my case.'

'We're going to have the best educated American people in the world.'

On campaigning in New Hampshire: 'The important question is, How many hands
have I shaked?'

'I would have said yes to abortion if only it was right. I mean, yeah it's
right. Well no, it's not right. That's why I said no to it.'

'A tax cut is really one of the anecdotes to coming out of an economic
illness.'

'We have a firm commitment to Nato; we are a part of Nato. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe.'

'I will have a foreign-handed foreign policy.'

'Kosovians can move back in.'

'Actually - this may sound a little West Texan to you, but I like it. When I'm talking about - when I'm talking about myself, and when he's talking about myself, all of us are talking about me.'

On his controversial visit to South Carolina's Bob Jones University, where interracial dating is banned: 'The policy on interracial dating, I mean I spoke out on interracial dating. I spoke out against that. I spoke out against interracial dating. I support the policy of interracial dating.'

On the death penalty: 'The only things that I can tell you is that every case I have reviewed I have been comfortable with the innocence or guilt of the person that I've looked at. I do not believe we've put a guilty... I mean innocent person to death in the state of Texas.'

'When I was coming up, it was a dangerous world, and you knew exactly who
they were. It was Us v. Them, and it was clear who 'Them' was. Today, we are not so sure who the 'They' are, but we know they're there.'"

Like I said, shouldn't matter which side of the fence you stand... these make me laugh.

DC... advice noted! Wink

I will begin my internet search now for stoopid Kerry sayings! Or maybe I can talk about how he waffles on the issues or how he brags about his 3 purple hearts all the time! I hope that will work! I want to avoid being on THE list!

But seriously... all you die-hard 'Pubs... if I saw something funny about Kerry, I'd post it here too. I've always beleived myself to be an equal oppurtunity offender!! Wink

Methinks some of those quotes are conflated with some others ... but not to pick nits, they're always good for a laugh when politicians sound stupid. I loved DQ for that:

A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle

My friends, no matter how rough the road may be, we can and we will never, never surrender to what is right.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle speaking to the Christian Coalition about the need for abstinence to avoid AIDS, 11/15/91 (reported in Esquire, 8/92)

Okay, I won't open it until then.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle after having been presented with an empty box that was to contain a gift from a sailing team in South America. He was told that the gift was not ready yet, but that it would be presented to him when they arrived in the United States.

I happen to be a Republican president -- ah, the vice president.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle (Newsweek 4/9/90)

Maybe you guys will get lucky this year and face the Orioles in the World Series.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle encouraging the Milwaukee Brewers after throwing out the opening pitch of the season. Both teams are in the American League. (5/3/92 Sunday Detroit News)

I read these same exact quotes, but they were attributed to Kerry. My beat is that neither one of them said the majority of them, someone just compiled all these stupid quotes together and attributed them to either Kerry or Bush. Then along comes someone who knows how to use the cut and paste function and off it goes.

Keep the Bushisms coming. It's not what you say, but what you do. In my opinion the President is doing a fine job. Sen. Kerry seems to think it's more what you say...not what you do. I'm pointing out that what he has done over his almost 20 yrs in the senate is decidedly different than how he prtrays he would act as president.

Bushisms are one of the things I admire most about the president. Not that he mispseaks, but that he doesn't care when people make fun of him for it. In fact he makes fun of himself.(See the NCAA hockey champion's visit to the White House, I won't bother cut/pasting it for you)

BTW, I think Sen Kerry had a mispeak in the last day or two. He was talking about doubling special forces to conduct terrorism (not fight terrorism). This is a paraphrase.

DC is right. You have now been marked for banishment. We'll start with the fact that it was "potato" he misspelled. If you are going to make fun of someone, you really have to make sure you get it right.

azsar... yes those are admirable and charming qualities for the President of the greatest Nation on the face of the earth to possess. I can imagine the guffaws that any of the right wing talk shows would have if he was a Dem.

DC - You don't have to imagine. Open your eyes and ears and look at all of the coverage the left wing media gives the President when he mispeaks.

Since you seem to have a problem seeing with those blinders, I'll explain it to you. The admirable character trait is that he doesn't take himself too seriously and that when people make fun of him it doesn't bother him.
