Hi I 've heard of a few people that are purchasing cigars from "reputable" shops and not knowing that they are buying counterfeit cigars....Does anybody have any ideas how this practice can stop???? ...Can someone come up with an item that the empowers the consumer that he or she can walk into a cigar shop/store and use some type of device that he can use to check the authenticity of the cigar box and to make sure that what he is buying is what he is really paying for and getting???
I'm thinking of a "special" lable with some sort of "hidden" image (LOCK) that can ONLY be seen with a "Special" lens (KEY). This lens would ONLY be available to the customer from the Manufacturers website and the manufactures code for that production of Box of cigars, say at a reasonable price ($15.00). This will allow the consumer the POWER to Authenticate a BOX of lets say, Padron 1964 Anniversary Series that he is now sure that he is getting what he is paying for, because he is "armed" with this special lens (KEY) that NO matter where he buys he can see the manufacturers hidden code (LOCK). At this point he can enjoy his fine cigar as he can rest assure that it is Authentic because he has his "special" lens (KEY) to verify the manufactures "hidden" image (LOCK). And I guess this will help all us NEW cigar aficionados who have fallen prey to these counterfeit selling cigar shops....It is really nice to dream!!!!...Any one else fallen prey to counterfeit cigars??? What precuations should be taken to make sure that we as consumers get what we pay for when entering a "reputable" cigar shop????.... I don't what to be ripped off again!

Interesting thought, but after reading your thread, the only thing I can imagine is a bunch of anguished guys with weird looking glasses roaming cigar shops.

A Cigar company that has a vested commitment in their customer in their brand want's their customer to come back time and time again....They recognized the brand, but if they are fooled into buying bogus cigars, They will NEVER buy Again!!!..Al they will get is a bad taste in their mouth of a Counterfite Cigar at the expense of the Manufacturer that has paid for advertising, has invested in croops, has invested in a system unique to them, that some A-hole who wnats to make a buck, washes everything away running a counterfeit scam...

I'm glad you feel that way (about the humor that is) and I don't feel immune to countetfeits. But why should I pay 15$ for a protection that should be there for free. There has to be another way than special glasses and the bother of carrying them around.
And don't worry, counterfeiters will find a way to go arounfd that real fast.

They are not glasses...They are lenses the size of a credit card....You can carry this with you at all times...
With regard that it should be free...I think nothing in life is free..This is my point..There needs to be a "checks" and "balance" type of arrangement where.... the cigar producers say...This is what we produced...and here is the tool or "lense" that you can check it out with... This way we can make sure that we get what we pay for and any type of counterfeit cigar will NEVER make it to our lips ever again...
