As this "Cigar Talk" truly is a "Cigar Lounge", I'm going to throw out this new topic.
Why do some people hate guns and gun owners so much? I have a concealed carry handgun license, so I never leave home without it.
I keep a gun in EVERY room of my home, and living in the countryside, have had to resort to using guns on snakes (not the human kind), and a few defensively fired shots close to urbanites who came around late at night to steal something. I don't know why else they would have been here around two in the am.
So, I'm anxious to hear your thoughts as I enjoy, yet another good cigar.

I see no problem with a responsible citizen owning a gun or more than one for sport. The real problems come up in places where IRRESPONSIBLE people have firearms.
Teenagers who need to show off their manhood, gangbangers who have to defend their territory, violent people who do not think before using a weapon and of course criminals who use firearms to commit crimes are all on my not a good thing list.
Having been on the front lines of urban America for over 6 years seeing what an errant shot or a shot fired in anger can do I personally do not approve of firearms, but I will defend your right to have them as long as they are not used for unlawful purposes.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived. Genera G. S. Patton Jr.
For a Blindman, you see very well. And, I have taken the liberty to steal the quote by Gen. Patton. It is deafening. Reason for stealing: I email a quote of the day to my family and friends. I'ts becoming difficult to discover a high-quality quote every day, so, you saved me some work. Thanks

Why do some people hate guns and gun owners so much?
A They did not grow up around their proper use and therefore do not understand it and fear them
B. Think you can reason with someone who wants to take something of yours (life, freedom or property)
C They are Pus##eS
Agree wholeheartedly with A and B.
As for C, well...I think a more reasonable explanation would be that there are a lot of irresponsible gun owners who compound their bad image by getting into the unfortunate habit of wearing t-shirts with sayings like "Shoot 'em all, let God sort 'em out."
Just like responsible sports car owners or responsible drinkers, responsible gun owners don't attract attention to themselves. Unfortunately, what we see more of on TV are urban thugs firing indiscriminately, or hillbillies shooting beer cans off the hood of a rusted Trans Am, or yuppie clowns who keep a Glock ("gotta be a Glock 'cause that's the only handgun I know") in the glove compartment of their BMWs and end up accidentally shooting their buddies while showing off.
I have and carry guns. Lots of guns. Oh, and bullets. Lots of bullets. To anyone that questions it, my reply: "Hey, dumba$$, it's LACK OF PARENTING not guns!!"

I was a gun owner from a young age, got my first .22 when I was 10, a Marlin but in 1967 or 68 our house burnt down & I never replaced that Marlin , how ever I did replace the Savage Anshultz target rifle, the Win.30/06,the 94 Winchester ,the Mossburg 10 Ga ,36 inch barrel( for shooting down HIGH flying ducks & geese )& the 12 gage dbl brl. , over the years I added a Beretta Golden snipe o/u & a Weatherbee Mk V I got used in an estate sale & a few dozen or so long guns , no hand guns , My Grandfather & uncles were all hunters & target shooters, my dad was just a target shooter, he didnt like going out in the cold & freezing his buns off so he didnt like to hunt much, I took the Hunters safty course when I was very young, & taught it for a few years back in the 60's , but a few years ago the eyes started to go & when I got the trifocals I knew it was time to hang it up , I just wasnt able to see through the peep site any more , so I parted with all of the armory , I should have kept the 410 single shot, I have been looking at a .357 for the house, but I dont want to loose what little hearing I have left if I need to use it , so i might just look for a good old Marlin.22,,,,,,,,, again ! If you were raised around guns they are just part of the life you live, but if you are never exposed to a fine made wepon you never know the joy of seeing the face of your child or grandchild when they get the FIRST bullseye, dont fear the GUN fear the Crazy person with one who has never had a safety lesson in thier life . Enjoy, Vince

E-cord, The glock comment is hilarious... I was raised in a house with no guns, not even rifles.. I was thinking about getting a handgun..Glock..heard they were easy to fire. As long as the bullet leaves the chamber properly.. wouldn't a Glock be fine?

After having already had much of this debate in another recent post on this forum, I've come to the conslusion that different countries (nay, different regions within countries) have very different "gun cultures", depending on their history and relationship with weapons. Anyway you look at it - guns or no guns - there are pros and cons (which I will not list here)and it is nearly impossible to judge correctly an attitude which is the opposite of yours.
So spare me your condescendant ABCs. If guns are fine where you are and you can handle them, great, just make sure your kids don't go Columbine on you. If guns are not fine where I am, great too, I accept to face the consequences if there are some. It comes down to different strokes for different folks, there is no way to compare and no way to judge.

I collect weapons. I currently own 48 weapons, most are military style semi-automatic rifles. I own one Class III weapon, an HK MP5K PDW 9mm submachine gun.
I grew up around firearms. I am an NRA certified Handgun and Personal Protection Instructor. I was a paratrooper, LRS Team member then re-enlisted and served as Special Forces Weapons Sergeant and SOF Sniper with the 10th Special Forces Group on Active duty and with the 20th Special Forces Group Alabama Army National Guard. I still serve in the Army Guard.
I live way out in the country where I can fire any of my weapons when ever I want to.
I keep a loaded weapon in every room of my house as well and have no problem taking out anyone on my property who is there to attempt to victimize me.

TSfoster, VINNY To try and kill to birds with one stone, I would recamend the 357 magnum, it is one of manny that i keep to safegard my family. It has unbalivable stoping power. with the corect round it will stop any one wanting to do harm to you, with out having to worry about over penatrating the target ie..( the intruder). aAs for noise you can use a 38sp +P round It wont make you def in close corters and will still hit hard enough to stop some one. There are a lot of good sidearms out there that will work. The one I use at home is a S&W 686-4 357magnum it is 7 shot revolver. I like the added edge of one extra round just in case. Should the unthinkable ever hapen and you have to defend yourself, Remember two thing. in order to use deadly forceyou must be in undouted fear of losing life or limb (unless you live in Tx.) and never ever say you shot to KILL them, always shoot to STOP! Formaly being in Lawenforcment as well as my brother, sister, and brother inlaw still in, and my uncle, who is the retierd Chife of police in Lake Andes SD. Just some friendly advise.

I was just reading over some of these posts with a coworker and his response was that there should be a law that if you request a concealed weapons permit, you should automatically be denied. He based this on his experience that the only people who seem to want concealed weapons permits are the ones who shouldn't have them. Funny sH!T.
Anyhow, I don't own any guns. I grew up with guns (my father hunts regularly) but they were never seen as objects of personal protection. That's not to say that I didn't sometimes daydream about using the guns to defend our home from people trying to break in.
As an adult I can see the pros and cons of gun ownership. However, in my situation the cons outweigh the pros. I will hopefully never have to buy a gun for protection. However I will support your right to bear arms, as long as you don't get offended when I refuse to allow my children to come to your house in which you have a "gun in every room".
I do have a conceald weapons permit, do i cary when i leave the house, almost never. I have a sightron scope on my S&W which i have used for hunting. I have one 12 ga. To use for bird hunting. Otherwise all the others i have are black powder. It's a lot more chalinging to hunt that way.

And forum members, remember: A loaded weapon is only as good as when you need it.

Not really, but it is to be expected. Kinda like the people who want you to not be able to smoke...ANYWHERE.

Did you hunt or do any shooting? Do you know how to handle a weapon?

It may be to late at that point. You are either prepared to defend yourself and your family or you are not. If you are able to own a firearm and can afford to buy one and get some training, why wouldn't you?

That's fine. Do you ask all of your kid’s friend's parents if they own guns? Wouldn't it be better to get your kids some basic firearms safety classes so they know what to do if they ever come across a weapon?
