I really wanted Lance to win the stage today, but it was not to be. I would love to see Levi's time stay on top. I'm headed out to do 4th of July stuff so I won't know anything until tonight.
Did you notice in the pre-race interview how Lance said Contador was the team leader...for now?

Nothing like a good fight. Should make the tour rather interesting.
Cor: Steve, you have proven yourself to be a tremendous whack job.

I agree. You have to watch the 6 parts of Legends of the Tour. Unfrikin believable watching Lance just walk away from the challengers as he climbs the 1.5km accents and just sprints away in the end.
As well watching him avoid disaster on a downhill switch back and ride through a farmers field at 50km a hour, only to emerge on the next switch back and keep on going. The master of cool and composed.

That WAS crazy, thank God there was ground there; it could have been a sheer drop off the side of a mountain. Just watching the descents can make me nervous.

Watching the coverage on Versus channel (DirecTV) today...these guys are truly the most amazing athletes in the world IMO. Cannot even fathom the mental strength it takes to get through the Tour. Insane.
As a sidenote: I watched an amazing documentary entitled Blood, Sweat and Gears on Sundance last night. Great story about team Slipstream/Garmin. I love the description one of the riders gave regarding crashes...
"A cycling crash is over 40mph, going all the way up to almost 70mph...they're not fun. I mean you just don't have any protective gear. I mean a little styrofoam lid on your head, I mean okay, that prevents you from dying...maybe. Just imagine that you're in your car and you decide to strip down to your underwear when you're driving out on the highway, and you open the door and jump out of your car...that's pretty much what it is".
I also couldn't believe the toll this sport takes on the riders' personal lives/relationships/families...extremely hard on some of the girlfriends and wives with the grueling schedules and constant travel. Very interesting doc. Check it out.
Go Lance!
