Some are comparing these events to the early 70's when the deposed Nixon was removed from office. For those too young to remember, the Democrats also won control of the Senate and House in similar fashion...which IMO is an interesting parallel, considering the Middle East, oil, war, etc.....

Cromag,
Welcome back and I must say, you hit the nail on the head, these day remind me of the Carter years too. Too bad for America. I hope we make it past these times.

I sure hope we don't repeat, but who knows, there's always a silver lining; and America ain't done, not by a long shot.
I think it's still too early to tell, I will wait to see results, and I can wait a few years.
Interesting stuff though, and it's good to see that people are taking more proactive roles towards civics, as I believe that it's crucially important that we do, however divisive it may be.
I don't think the Democrats are as unified as you fear. It's 60 in name only. Only time will tell, and they may end up passing some pretty asinine laws before this is over. I'm amazed that the conservatives on this board don't rag on Pelosi more often. It's always about Obama. I'm a liberal and I think Pelosi is a snake in the grass. At least Obama thinks he's doing the right thing.
Politics goes in cycles. When we go too far in one direction, we are then more apt than not going to experience going too far in the other direction.
And there isn't much that can change it. People get fed up with one thing, and then demand the opposite. Then it will reverse. Back and forth, ad nausea.

What I thought was interesting was a statistician on one of the news channels. He said that given the margin it would be within the statistical margin of error, there was no way to truly tell who had the most number of votes, (the grey area was in the human decision which votes to count on the disouted ballots).
I don't see the Democrats as a monolithic bloc. My Senator, Liberman votes more conservative than many republicans, and the other Chris Dodd, Kennedy liberal though he is, never saw a submarine he didn't vote for.
