I would like to defend the Dominican Cohiba as it has become one of my fav Cameroon wrapped cigars. There are two things to get out of the way as far as the bad rep it gets. 1, the camparison to the fantastic Cuban by the original name. These two should never be compaired. They couldn't be further apart. Yes they share the same name but the word Cohiba from the Taino Indians used the word Cohiba as cigar. So lets leave it at that, they are both cigars. 2, Yes it is overpriced. So if price matters it will get a bad rap. But I'm defending it as a smoke of high quality Piloto Cubano and a Cameroon wrapper. Of course I'm talking the red dot. I love the robusto fino and the robusto. First, it is an extremely well made cigar. I havn't had a problem with burn or draw. The Piloto Cubano filler gives it a nice smooth flavor while the Cameroon wrapper gives it a sweet complex flavor of tea, honey, cedar and notes of clove. If you put this cigar up against other Cameroons such as H.Upmann vintage Cameroon, Oliva serie G, Don Carlos by Fuente and even Hemingway I find this cigar to be more consistent and more complex. Now this is all in my opinion as I love those smokes but I really like these Cohiba's more. Now there are better prices out there for sure. There are also better cigars for better prices but in the catagory of a Cameroon wrapped Dominican I find this the best. Over priced? Probably. Overrated? IMO, no. So all in all what I'm saying is take it for what it is. A fine cigar. Never, ever compare it to its name sake of Cuban origin and if you can get it for about $6.00 for a robusto, jump on it. Take the band off and it gets a whole lot better. Now this does not go for Cohiba black or XV. Just a great Cameroon for Cameroon lovers. IMHO. Thanks for the read.
well, your tastes have changed, Mike. I recall not to long ago we were sitting in the Tinder Box having a laugh at a guy buying up a lot of these cigars lol. Well, maybe those were the Cohiba blacks.
You got these for $6 on the res?
I really need to get out there. Although, my humi is packed. I don't think I could fit another cigar in there. I'll pick up a couple of these when I go.

Yeah, the tinder box only has the black and XV. I have recently developed a taste for Cameroon wrapped. My taste changes from time to time. In the morning I like a more mild smoke with a Cameroon wrapper. James, the prices are nuts over there. Padilla 1968 robusto-$5.99 Oliva serie G Belicoso-$3.25 Padron 1926 No. 35-$10.50 I believe a Robusto size Pepin blue is $5.00 All the Pepin's, all the Padron's, all the Padilla's. The whole store is one big walk in humidor. I bought a box of H.Upmann Petit Corona vintage Cameroon for $60.00. It's my morning drive to work smoke. NO TAXES.
A good Cameroon wrapper forgives a lot of sins. I think Dominican Cohiba is a joke for the MSRP but at $6 a stick, not a bad buy at all. I love Cameroon -- Camacho Select, Partagas #10, Oliva Serie G, Ashton Puro Sol and especially La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet. Even H. Upmnann Vintage Cameroon works for me when I want a very mild Cameroon stick.
Mike, have you tried the 5 Vegas Gold line? If not, I'll give one to you the next time I see you(whenever that is, I barely have time to sleep these days lol). I think they're a great, mild, morning cigar that you can't beat for the price.
I just finished one and I'm pretty impressed, again. Perfect burn, perfect draw, nice oils, and a great smooth taste. All for about a buck twenty.

Never tried one James. Looking forward to it. I've heard good things.
I've never smoked a genuine Cuban Cohiba. But I love the red dot Cohibas. It's a fine cigar, and tastes fantastic. If you like them, that's all that matters. Some them and enjoy them.
I do!

ive had both cc cohibas and dc cohibas. both are great cigars. of course i would prefer the cc version. the cohiba dc is the only cigar i will buy from shop rite when im going through cigar withdrawals and im far from my humi's. lol. overall great smokes indeed.
I smoked two Cohiba Red Dots before. Both were excellent smokes with great burn and ash as I recall. Unfortunately, it's been 3+ years since I smoked them, and I was a very inexperienced cigar smoker at the time. I'd like to try one now, but I refuse to pay $10 for a robusto.
