Okay so i am somewhat new to the whole cigar thing but i am loving it so far. I am looking to purchase my first box of cigars, but i want try and stay in the 100-130 price range for now. This is what i have figured out about my cigar taste so far
I dont like smokes that are so full they make me dizzy lol
Natural and really light colored wrappers tend to leave a stale taste in my mouth from time to time
Maduro tastes great but too strong they make me sick
I leaning towards the cameron wrapper because it seems to be in between the maduro and natural
I also love to drink rum a lot dont know if that helps. size i tend to stay in the corona gorda range torpedo or parejo is good for me anything more than 6.25 tends to be too long anything fatter than 56 tends to be too fat anything skinnier than 47-48 tends to be too skinny
Smokes that ive liked so far (even though some dont fall into my description range i still found that i liked these) Perdomo connect lot 23 leon Jimenes Maduro wrapper Arturo Fuente Don Carlos
The Oliva Serie Gs are some of the best cameroons for the money, the ring guage seems to fit with a 4.5x50 rubusto. I dont really know how much they are like the others you have smoked, but they are considered medium body so they should be fine. I would recommend buying a single or a couple before buying a box though.
DAMN, Im Thirsty! I want a beer, how bout you? You want a beer?
Carlos Torano Exodus 1959, H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon, Don Pepin Cuban Classic, are all go-to smokes for me, not too full like alot of maduro's but each has it's own flavors and i enjoy all of them. they come in sizes that fit your description and i second trying a few of each before buying a box. also consider getting a sampler

La Aroma de Cuba Robusto is a very good sleeper cigar, usually can get a box for $95-$100. The Sosa Wavell is also a nice robusto size smoke around $100 a box.

I started years ago with Don Diego. I liked the smooth mildness at the time. Romeo Y Julieta were next as they were mild and creamy. The bully was a good choice. I started moving up the Fuente line sticking with Connecticut shade wrappers. I then moved on to Maduro's as they were smooth and flavorfull. I started to kick it up a notch with Padron's and other Nicuraguan smokes. My tastes have changed from mild and smooth to full bodied, smooth and complex. Padron 64, 26 and Don Pepin's are amongst my favorites now. Try a Don Diego, a good starter in my opinion.
Like Thaterp, I like Oliva G, the robustos come in maduro and cameroon, each are under $4/stick at my local shops and I keep some on hand for my friends who do not smoke very often and they have always enjoyed them. This way you'll be able to try another maduro to see if it was the brand which was too strong, and not a result of the wrapper.

1)You might want to try the Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon. It's medium body and full of flavor. A box of robustos 5.5 X 52 is about $75 at Holts. 2)The Oliva Series G is also an awesome choice. 3)Also, have you tried Gispert. They are mild and taste good and best of all- cheap. A box of robustos is around $50. 4)Don Lino Africa is another good Cameroon. They may be a little stout for you. They're also a little bit more expensive. 5)Away from Cameroon, Gran Habano #1 or #3 may be a good medium body choice. Great flavor.
What ever you do as a new cigar smoker, do not purchase a whole box of cigars. Buy a bunch of five-packs of different cigars or some samplers from places like Holts.
1. You're still trying new cigars. With a whole box, you're stuck with one cigar. 5 packs will provide variety.
2. Tastes change, espically as a new cigar smoker. If you buy a box and you're tastes change, you're stuck.
I like the Torano Silver Exodus, Perdomo La Tradicion Cameroon, Camacho Diploma (but will be too strong for you), Torano Virtuoso, Fuente Hemmingway, CAO Brazillia.

You've got ALOT of suggestions so far, so I don't know how much you'll really take mine into consideration, but if you want a good starting point, try the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Fuente Sungrown. You've got the master craftsmanship of the Fuente's but with a more mild approach. I find that the sungrown variety have much more flavor and much less bite than some of the other varieties. Just my two cents.

I would try the La Aurora Preferidos cameroon. Fantastic smoke. One of my favorites. I should be receiving five of them today. Light and tasty! I smoke mostly Robustos', but I'm sure whatever size you find will be just fine!
