I have a humidor that's been having difficulties maintaining humidity, and as a result I apparantly overfilled the humidifiers. After a couple weeks (I had a bad chest-throat cold) I came to find a couple of my beloved Trinidads to be water (50-50 pg technically) stained. One looks like it was completely soaked at one time, one looks about 50% stained, one 25%, and one 10%. Are these cigar savable, or should I just light up and be prepared to toss them one by one?

I don't think I would want to smoke a cigar that got Propylene Glycol on it.

Although generally regarded as safe, PG is an alcohol and might not taste too good smoked.

Take a thin cedar sheet from a cigar box and place it over the top of your cigars in between the cigars and the humidification device to prevent this from happening again.

When I recharge my humidification device, I normally leave it on the counter for a few minutes, then I turn it upside down on a paper towel for another few minutes, if the towel is dry, you're good to go. Too bad about your stogies, although sounds like a good excuse to do some internet shopping and visit your local B&M. Buying cigars is more addictive than smoking them.

Oh, another thing, if your humi has trouble maintaning humidity, did you season it properly when you first got it? Have you done the flashlight test? Maybe it does'nt have a good seal.

You always want a good seal.

Well, I smoked the worst of the bunch, the first half was good, the second half tasted like a cheap cigar. At least I got something out of it.

I had a similar thing happen to about 12 Hoyo Excalibur #1's, i was p!$$3d. Mine were unrecoverable, i had to console myself with a trip to the tobacconist.

I bought a desk humidor years ago during the boom. Plexiglas with a water resevior in the handle and a sponge-like thing on the inside that was supposed to act as a wick. Well, the water just dripped right through the sponge, onto my cigars and ruined them all. I tried to return it and the shop owner told me I must not know much about cigars. He lastest about a year before he went belly up...heh heh.
