There is a Ramada on Rt. 10 in East Hanover that has a lounge and sports bar. No need to buy cigars, but may have a rent. Problem is it only seats 15 people (chairs and sofa) and I'm hoping for bigger turnout. Never done one of these, so I'm not sure what kind of turnout is reasonable. I say we plan on JRs on Rt. 10 as a safety (the bar there is good, but the big area is kinda is impersonal for a large group), they do have rooms, but more tables and chairs than couch and sofa). We can continue looking for a more "special" place. Other places I've come across include Helmer's in Hoboken (good German food...eaten there many times) does events on Wednesdays for Hoboken Cigar Club. Again, tables and chairs. There is a chop house in Ft. Lee that has a bar and private rooms. The Grand Summit Hotel in Summit (my town) has a good cigar friendly bar and food, but tables and chairs and no humi. The Madison Hotel in Madison is cigar friendly and has great food. They have a "wine" room that can be rented, done a few functions there but it'll be pricey. Not what I think we want.

I think the idea is to congregate at a place with a bar and maybe a humidor (people will bring their own anyway) that is accessible for many. JRs may be the best bet, as its close to 287 and 80 and 78/24 so the Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth and Bergen county folks can get there easily. JRs may even offer us a deal. The bar closes at 10pm, BTW.

Boofa...I've never been to Smoker's Delight. What is the address? I may check it out this weekend.

I contacted the manager of the JR store in Whippany. We'll see if he gets back to me. I'll head over there at lunch next week if I don't get a response. It would be a good venue. (They're publishing a couple of paragraphs on the NE sit-down in the Summer edition written by Wacco).

Does Smoker's Delight allow you to bring your own booze?

Good eye Binder...I shouldn't have thrown those to sentences together. I went to Smoker's Delight last night and I don't think that would be a good spot because of the seating. If we are looking at 15 or more of us, then Ashes would be the spot. I really can't think of any other place that would accomodate us. I've been to the JR Cigars in Paramus and from what I remember, they have one table that could probably seat 8 to 10 people, not enough. Smoker's Delight would allow us to bring booze but Ashes has booze and food. It's up to you guys, I'll be there regardless.

The JR at Whippany has a huge lounge and a smaller side room. I still haven't heard back. We'll keep you updated once we find a place.

I just looked at a map. NJ is downhill from MA, so it won't take much gas. The uphill climb back will suck.

We can pass the hat around and take some donations for gas.

We're looking at either May 21st or June 11th for an informal sit down. The place is still TBA.

No not yet...I had to work last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday...caught a case Sunday afternoon that took me into Monday, which I was supposed to have off. Hopefully I can make it there this Friday...my best friend and I are going to get some golf tips from her father and hopefully we can get to Ashes afterward...I will keep you guys update.

If Ashes becomes too expensive for some, I don't mind driving way up to north Jersey...just keep me posted Smile

We have found a few good places that charge a fee. Was wondering what the appetite for a $10-20 per person fee would be? Just so we know...
