I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a brief question regarding the Cigar Oasis. My name is Chris and I live in snowy Syracuse, NY. I have been smoking cigars for about six months and some of my favorites are Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, Macanudo Hyde Park, and Punch Gran Puro, and Opus X. I have been reading this board for about six months and I really appreciate all of the helpful insight and information that the members post. I did a search for information on the board and on the internet regarding the Cigar Oasis. I found some useful information but I was just wondering about some of your thoughts. I have a Savoy Humidor which measures 12"x6"x5" and am currently using a Madaline's Humidification system. I have salt tested my digital hygrometers and they read 58% and 59% rh respectively. The temperature in my house is usually about 67 degrees. I have recharged the humidification device but can't get the rh above 61%. I know that I would be giving up some space to put in a Cigar Oasis but I have heard only good things about this product. Does anyone have a Cigar Oasis in a humidor about the size of mine? If so how is it functioning? Does anyone have any other thoughts regarding the Cigar Oasis? Thank you for your time and consideration.

Great Ash I live in north central PA and the forced air gas heat dose a number on my humi.
I salt tested both of my digital hydrometers both a perfect 75%. I need to keep both of my humidification devices charged and my oasis set
at 77% to keep my 300 ct at 67% RH Confused

GreatAsh,

It's always very difficult keeping humidity levels up during the winter. I personally have found that unless you have a cabinet humidor, an Oasis system may not be called for. I use the Heartfelt beads and they work great - though in the cold, dry winter here in CO I need to basically saturate the beads every week to keep the humidity at an acceptable level.

In lieu of the beads, you may want to check out another Madeline product available in most tobacco shops. In a little jar containing some kind of gelatanous (sp?) beads. It does an excellent job of keeping humidity in the acceptable range in the winter. You may need to buy two or three of them for your large humidor, however. (They're very cheap, so don't worry.) You may find they keep the humidity too high in the summer months, but for winter they're great.

Sounds like the Oasis would be overkill for a humi that size. I'd go with beads (Heartfelt or kitty litter pearls - do a search for these).

The heat is screwing with my RH level so I added a small dish of distilled water to my White House humi to get the RH back up. The Barrister is holding firm at 65%. Both use the kitty litter pearls.
