Can anyone tell me why these athletes think they are so important or in danger that they have to carry guns everywhere they go? Dionte Christmas is the third athlete in the last year to be arrested for gun possession (Delonte West, Plaxico Burress). I really don’t understand what these idiots are thinking.

I'm not famous but I have a license and carry a gun pretty much everywhere I go. We live in a very dangerous world and here in America have a neat little thing called the 2nd Amendment, which guarantees American Citizens the right to own and carry a weapon. The only mistake many of these high profile folks make is not registering and carrying legally, after getting a license.

I'm all for gun rights Pres, but it is kinda silly that they're all strapped everywhere they go. There should be no need for a gloc in a nightclub unless you're there to shoot the place up.
These athletes understand the risks of problems (they'd have to with all the news about it) yet continue to be stupid.
I really see athletes as thugs anymore, especially the NFL and NBA players... You never see Hockey, Tennis, Golf, Nascar, Soccer, and for the most part Baseball with serious problems, but NFL and NBA players always show up in the news year after year.

I don't believe you read my post correctly. I said as long as people carry their weapons legally, places such as night clubs are typically off limits, as you cannot carry a gun into an establishment that garners the majority of their money from alcohol sales in most states. Secondly, believe it or not, these high profile types may be targets for crime and this is America, we have the right to bear arms.

these athletes are viewed as high value targets for robberies and extorsion. Which isn't too big of a deal if your hanging out at your gym, country club, a restaurant, etc. But when they still hang around in the old neighborhood or are regulars at shady spots like nightclubs and strip clubs, they are constantly being measured up. There are people who are thinking how can I profit by getting over on a professional athlete? Pick a fight, robb them, try and blackmail them, get a woman to cry foul, etc. Whether or not these things are actually happening to the athlete is another issue, but this is thier mindset a lot of the time. Is it justified to carry a gun? Legally carry it yes, but illegally no. However, when you have "F-You" money you don't care as much about getting nailed on gun charges. That's how I see it.

If you read the newspaper (hardly anyone does anymore), or go to a news site online, you can find any number of crimes that could have been avoided if people were armed. Some people here may look at it as a joke, but those are the same people that would be car-jacked and pistol whipped like little girls and cry about it. There are typically not enough cops to protect everyone, no one can be responsible for you and your families security as much as you.

Sure, plenty would have been prevented. Just as many might have ended up with both parties dead.

Well, there you have your answer to your personal security. Don't carry a gun if you are afraid you could be killed, instead you can just hope that no one kills you. After all, as everyone knows, no one will kill you unless you have a weapon.

No, that's not an answer. If someone decides to rob you, 99 times out of 100 they will have the jump on you. Unless you have the thing strapped to your side like Clint Eastwood and are lightning fast, you will not be able to pull it fast enough to prevent the guy from taking a shot if he decides to.
So then it's really a question of whether you pulling that gun made the guy shoot.
I could care less if you carry your gun with you to the supermarket. I just find it absurd is all. Dangerous world? Come on. I live in NYC and I haven't felt the need for a gun. You live in Ohio...u afraid someone going to steal your garden gnomes?

Sobek, I'm going to assume that you have never been to any type of small-arms training or combat arms training. I highly doubt you've ever shot a handgun. That is fine, that is your choice. However, when trouble happens, and it does, no one knows when or where it will happen. It's good to be prepared. Not prepared to shoot up the place, but prepared to defend your life and any other human life in danger. Would I use my gun if someone was stealing my van? No. Would I use my gun if someone was stealing my van with my three kids in it? Hell yes. It's all about training, discretion and the ability to make a decision like that if you need to. Most people will never have to make a decision like that, I'd like to be prepared if I do.
