I must say. In all my years smoking cigars and pipes i have never thought to buy a smoking jacket. I really want one now. No matter how cliche it is, i want one. Part of it is novelty and part of it is vanity, not to mention comfort. My question is...does anyone here own a smoking jacket and if so what brand? I feel like Doc must have a smoking jacket kicking around

My friend and I were just talking about this the other night. He went to goodwill to get an old one but couldn't find one. I wish you luck in your heroic search.
I have one that belonged to my father. Sadly, it no longer fits me and, seemingly has been attacked by hordes of rogue moths over the years. Nevertheless, I can understand your desire for a smoking jacket. Before you commit yourself however, ask yourself if it tends to be too cold where you smoke and/or if you normally wear a sportcoat at times you would don your smoking jacket. I typically change into jeans and some sort of shirt (flannel, cotton or tee depending on the weather) when I get home from the office. I found that the smoking jacket was in fact not all that comfortable and it was ofter too warm. Now this past winter I have been smoking in another room with a fan in the window and on a number of ocassions found a cardigan sweater to be a nice addition.
My understanding is that smoking jackets came into being when a gentleman would not be caught without a jacket and might smoke in his den or library. The smoking jacket allowed him to remain fully dressed and avoid bringing the smell of his pipe or cigar back into the rest of the house on his suit jacket.

" . i put two boxes of cigars on the window sill and voila, the cigars became, well, "plump" within a few days. so far the plump damp cigars smoke "better" than the cool dry ones "

Bought one many years ago. Think it was the same year I bought a Chesterfield. Both fell into disuse, and are long since gone.
