I have a Cigar Caddy, one of the crush proof, water proof, etc. I was wondering if you guys think it would be safe to pack in my luggage or if i should carry it on the plane with me. Thanks.

I wouldn't leave my smokes anywhere out of arm length away from me in a place like an airport.

Good point, I'm not taking anything fancy though, but still, a good point.

Just make sure you empty your lighters (if your travel case holds one) because a smart airport official would confiscate the whole thing Wink

I always take mine in a carry on. Forget the cost, if I am on vacation I need my smokes and the inconvenience of buying more takes away from it all. If the airline "loses" cigars you check in, they will reimburse you.

Well, JT, I learned the hard way. I took the cigars for our vacation with my son and his family and--you guessed it--the luggage did not arrive! There we were, in a beach house by the water and no cigars. Have you ever seen two grown men cry?

I too, would put cigars in my carry-on bag. Also, remember to put the tube of humidity gel in the plastic baggie with the other liquids at the security checkpoint.

Good tip,,,I never thought of that. If you don't add the water until you are on the plane, does it still count?

Take your smokes with you in your carry-on. The cargo hold gets extremely cold unless your case has some sort of thermal protection. The cabin is temperature controlled so you shouldn't have any problems there.

As far as the humidity gel, it shouldn't really matter as long as the container it is in is less than 3 oz. If you're using a Boveda pack, just throw it in the your quart size ziplock bag with the other travel size accessories you've brought.

Lighters... definitely send 'em empty. Anything you can see the fuel in is taken out automatically, yep even in checked baggage. Else wise send them in a vapor proof container [i think zippo and colibri make them, the first being the cheapest.] 2 lighters per checked bag.

I take my x-treme 30 count on all my business trips because it has a de-pressurizing mechanism for when the plan takes off and lands.

I put the box in my checked bag and have never had a problem, just do not leave lighters/cutters/fuel in the box with the cigars and its smooth sailing.

Good point, put your cutter/punch in your checked baggage. No need to waste time going back to the ticket counter trying to "check" it or even worse, having to chuck it because you'll miss your flight if you don't.

There was a Russian guy @ SFO recently, my buddies told me he had a bottle of Vodka in his bag when going through the checkpoint.

The screeners pointed out that he couldn't take it through security, so what did he do? He walked outside the check point, guzzled it all, and passed out on the floor. Big Grin

I read about that, what a fantastic way to make the news. The idiot who got alcohol poisoning because he chugged a litre of vodka in 5 minutes.

Thanks for the replies, this will come in handy in the next month or so.

Another question- will the humidipak tab things (the ones that look like the moistened hand towel packs) or similar regulate the humidity of a 20 ct. travel humi with 5-10 cigars in it?

Ok, I had a dumb moment- but for fun I'm going to leave it. Yes, I know what Bolveda packs are; yes, I have several; yes, I see that my previously idiotic question was already answered.

No mo' drinkie fo' me...

I've got one that I'm not sure hit the headlines. At Terminal One [SFO], a guy walked through the metal detector and didn't set off any alarms, all normal except for the fact that he had a large bulge in the front of his pants.

I know what your all thinking, but the screener there told him that he would be subject to additional screening. He tried to talk his way out of it to no avail, even speaking to the supervisor of the checkpoint. Anyway, he finally agreed to go for additional screening but said he needed to grab something from his bag, which was with his girlfriend who was putting her shoes/accessories back on.

Well, story goes that he went to his bag, grabbed something and ran back through the metal detector and out of the checkpoint. 2 screeners pursued him and off they went running through the terminal. Along the way a large bundle fell from his pants which was later determined to be marijuana.

He continued out to the departures drop off and proceeded to run across traffic and over the guard rail. The screeners caught up to he and tried to help pull him up because he was slipping but he fought with them and fell down to the arrivals level [about a 15-20ft drop.]

In the end he broke both legs and tried to crawl to a taxicab and was apprehended by SFPD. The bundle he grabbed from his bag ended up being $10,000 cash.

Both he and his girlfriend were promptly arrested.

I apologize if my story telling is lackluster, but I've never been good at that or telling jokes. Roll Eyes
