Hi all,

I'm going to be traveling soon and I'm looking for someone who can give me some info about the St. Louis MO area.

I’m looking for a few good bars that are cigar friendly, and have some good St. Louis character. No dance clubs, just a place where I can drink, smoke, and relax. Preferably in the nostalgic "old downtown" cobblestone street area. I’ll only be in town for one evening, so I’m trying to make the most of it. I’ll get there early enough to make a stop at the arch, but so far that is all I’ve got.

Also, I'm looking to spend no more than $120 or so (on a Saturday night) for a hotel, and I'm wondering if someone can suggest one in a relatively good part of the city (but not too far from downtown). I don’t plan on doing anything except sleeping there, so I don’t care about hotel bars or amenities. I just don’t want to have to worry about my car being broken into or stolen….. and I just don’t know what part of the city I should stay away from.

I hope someone here can offer some sound advice.. Enjoy your weekend!!

PS- Tell me if you know of any points of interest or good hotels/bars along interstate 40 from OK city to Flagstaff AZ... I'm not sure where else I will be staying.

Schafly brewery has a nice patio I smoked a Monticristco on last night. I've also smoked several cigars at Maggie Obriens(inside the bar area as well as on the patio(good food at both places too). Weather this weekend should be good for it too. As for hotel, the Hampton near the MSD building is fairly popular and should be in your price range. http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/ showed both their downtown hotels having rooms for Saturday the 9th at $99.

You can find a number of good hotels (from cheap to expensive) in the center of town by using www.expedia.com. I just did a quick look, and I see that you can get a Best Western for $59 a night, a fantastic historically restored hotel called Omni Majestic Hotel (my favorite) for $149 and of course even higher priced places. But a number of hotels for well under the $120 that you want to pay. Also check if there is a parking fee for each hotel.

If you are going to be in the Saint Charles area, there is "Old St. Charles" with cobblestone roads.. many nice places to relax by the river and have a smoke. I suggest going to Lewis & Clarks for dinner and then maybe walk to some of the Micro Brews for a Ice cold beverage. There is also a Casino baot just a short walk away.

Ohhhh.... it's been years since I've been there, and I forgot about the casino boat! Smoking by the river sounds perfect. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Thanks for your post. I have checked out expedia.com, my concern was they part of the city the hotels were in, and if there were any areas I should stay away from.

Which Hampton is near the MSG building? What is the MSG building?

its the Metro Sewer Districk building(2350 Market Street is the address). Sounds like you may want something a little more 'old school' though with the cobble stone and what not.

Last night I booked a room at the one you are talking about I think. It says it is on Market street, somewhere around union station. Sounds perfect to me!

Thanks for your input.

Awsome. The MetroLink(rail transport) runs right behind that hotel and union station, so you can jump that down to Laclede's Landing where they have the old cobble stone roads and fine dining/bars etc. If you like Gambling you can stay on the rail for abit longer and it'll take you across the river to The Casino Queen. Some hotels also have ferry vans that will drive you to the Presidente casio and back. The MetroLink has free riding during lunch(I think it is 11-1 or something like that) on weekdays.
