OK, what do you do when you have a smoke with two beetle holes and you killed one of the beetles prior to finding the holey smoke?

What happened to the remaining beetle? None of my other smokes has any holes in it. Do you think it escaped? Crawled in through the foot of another smoke?

Peace.

Might have gotten out before you got the cigar, might be crawling around in the humidor or might have flown the coop.

I would quarenteen the smokes nearest the ones that had the beetles, freeze them and be very cautious in the near future.

If you are going to freeze your cigars for a year, you might as well just burn them now.

Freezing is a very cold freezer will kill the beetle eggs by causing them to burst (Water expands when frozen). This will happen within 3-days.

If you leave the cigars in the freezer for a long time they will dry out.

After 3-days place them in the refrigerator then allow them to reach room temperature before replacing them in the humidor.

It is advisable to clean out the humidor and reseason it before reusing it.

Doc, I've always wondered about the freezing process and this seems like a perfect time to ask, if you freeze them and the eggs burst, when you smoke the cigar, and I'm thinking outloud here, isn't that still kind of nasty to be smoking a cigar filled with burst beetle eggs in it? Am I just being too sensitive?

I would think if the eggs were the size of eraser heads it might not the world greatest flavor. But these eggs are miniscule, you would have a tough time spotting one in a ripped open cigar. My thoughts would be that even if there are 50 eggs, at the small a size the difference to your smoking pleasure is negligible.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with smoking the cigar with the dead eggs in it. They probably don't even sizzle (a little exo-skeleton doesn't sound bad, yum). We're probably not getting enough chitin anyway.

Most of us have probably already smoked cigars with eggs in them that never hatched and just never knew it. In the end it won't make a big difference.

I had the same problem, but i only removed the Smokes that had damage. All my smokes have cello on them so it made it easy to spot where the beetle went. The rest of my smokes were fine so i didnt
freeze any of them, and everything worked out fine.
