for the most part i am not into flavored cigars, but i recently tried the sauza cigar by drew estate and really enjoyed it. Its not quite the same as a specific vanilla or other flavor. Although i don't like acids or the specific flavored cigars there are a few like the sauza that can find a place in my occasional smokes. Problem is i can't store them since all my humidors are filled with non-flavored cigars.

Hey Dave, please don't do an article in cA about flavored cigars. Really, I mean it. If you're need to do something, do a survey on the home page, but skip doing the article.

Those of you that know me and have been on the receiving end of bombs from me know I love a wide range of cigars with a lot of taste, and yes I do smoke cubans..probably more cubans than most do...and yeah..I smoke a flavored cigar once in awhile.
While a young boy on my granddads farm in indiana, he used to smoke swisher sweets..and I've had a few of those. Now, when I absolutely have to have a quick smoke break where it can take no more than a few minutes, I'll lite up a Cuban Honey cherry or something like that, maybe even a CAO moontrance or the like. Its not an everyday thing, but for something quick to satisfy the craving and when I don't want to waste a robusto, I'll lite one of those up.
So let the bashing and name calling begin. yeah, they are flavored short filler cigars, but they do for a quick smoke.
I'm almost tired of the elitist snobs around here getting down on everyone because they do something different than smoke Davidoffs, Fuentes, or Dominican Monte's all the time. Put the snobbery and attitudes away and let people be.
The only flavored cigar I like are those flavored with various blends of tobacco. Have tried two; one (luckly free) acid and one Havana Honey. Both were not made to smoke. I have noticed lately in the local mini marts an increase in various flavored machine made cigars. Seems to be especially popular among brands that were floor sweepings before.

Tried the Drew Estates flavored a couple of times. Didn't mind them at first, but after a bit I tired of them. Anyone else had a Kaluha? Smells good, tastes like crap. I'd rather drink it than smoke it. I know guys who like those cognac flavored cigars. Pay a fortune for them. I don't think much of them. Much better spending the money on a good natural cigar.

I was given a Kuba Kuba when I first started 'gars last summer. It smelled and tasted like one of those punks that you use to light fireworks. It gave my wife a headache (never a good thing!)I have a friend that prefers the Acids and just loves them to death. Its just a matter of preference I guess. Well, guess that's why there is more than 1 brand and style.
Another guy smokes cherry flavored backwoods. go figure, I sure can't.

I'm fairly new to cigars and have never tried a flavored cigar, but fully intend to try one at some point. Why? Just to check it out, just like I check out an occasional low cost bundled cigar -- I think it helps to calibrate my palate for the truly fine smokes that I regularly enjoy. I have some Ashton cigarillos which I found to be horrible, but at least now I know. I may sneak out some sunny afternoon here in DC and smoke another. I also plan on trying a pipe one of these days once I settle on a design that doesn't remind me of Ward Cleaver or Douglas MacArthur. (Note: MacArthur is one of my heroes -- my comment in no way was intended to be derogatory.) Probably would not start with scented tobacco, though.
I too started with flavored cigars. CAO clearly has the best ones, but they are also the most expensive.
It's funny because just it's always the same - you start with flavored cigars, then when you discover and appreciate the real taste of good tobacco you wonder how you could have ever smoked them. The newbs never believe it but they always change their perspective. It's just like the "I'll never need a bigger humidor than this one" syndrome. You just have to let 'em realize it for themselves.

The idea of an article on flavored cigars sounds like Road and Track doing an article on the Yugo (and I'm not even a car freak). Am I becoming an elitist or what?

I've recently seen some vanilla, raspberry, etc. smokes for $0.89 at a truck stop. I sniffed one and it smelled like an air freshener. Yeesh!
There's a small ACID cigar that my girlfriend has smoked once or twice, called a "blondie". I'm not sure she liked it any better than taking a puff off one of my LFD chisels.
The first cigar I ever had was a terrible cherry-flavored thing when I was 12. Basically I think people go with the flavored cigars because they're afraid of what a strong cigar tastes like, or just don't know any better.
Also cigars get a bad rap in general and people fear them because of how pungent cigar smoke is, especially smoke from bad cigars, or that stale day-after smell. It just makes people fear cigars to the point where if they dip their toes in to try one for whatever reason they think "Vanilla, OK, that's something I understand."

You're all a bunch of snobs! There are some flavored cigars out there that, like a mild Connecticut shade, are a good morning smoke with a cup of Joe. These include Cojimar Vanilla (always well made), and Torano's Sweet Nostalgia. Stop being so stuck up! I, for one, wish CA had an article every once in a while on the topic of flavored cigars. They obviously sell, or else they wouldn't be made.

I personally don't smoke flavoured cigars and never have. I truely enjoy the flavor or a good cigar but I do know someone who loves flavoured Havana Honeys. My father-in-law smoke them all the time. In fact I gave him an good Fuente and he said it was too strong and tasted funny. So like it been said to each his own.

If you like tobacco covered in flavored substances, then thats you perrogative. Smoke all you like but dont start insulting eveyone before you get to know us.
