Just got some smokes sent to me....a few had thin cedar wraps around them. Do I take these off in the humidor or leave them on? Never seen this before. Thanks.
Maybe Doc or somebody else can explain a little better, but I've always heard it was preference. If anything, the wrap can help in the aging process, at least it can't possibly hurt it. As far as the mold, if you have mold under the wrap then you have mold elsewhere as well. mold should not happen regardless.

The cigar companies go to great expense to wrap some of their cigars in cedar. This helps identify certain cigars.
It is quite alright to leave the cedar wrap on when placing the cigar in the humidor and the cedar breathes so it does not restrict humidity or air flow.
Just remember to remove the cedar before lighting the cigar. (I know this sounds funny, but I have seen people do this.)

A few months ago my girlfriend and I were out shopping and decided to stop by a bar. After a few drinks she went to their humidor and picked out a cigar for me. Unfortunately, being under the influence, the extra dark lighting, and having a conversation with someone else conspired to have me start to light the cigar before I realized it still had the cedar wrap on it. It was a little embarassing but a valuable lesson.

A slight aside, but that bar loves it when we go in. Although I almost always bring my own cigars, other patrons see me smoking and usually buy from them. Has anyone else noticed that type of trend?

No, I usually get the cold stare, a cough and some type of waving the smoke away hand gesture. I like it that way

Leave it on, it won't hurt a thing. It is there to impart some cedar taste to the cigar. The ones I have seen with it are of the milder variety, and it is to add a bit of zing to them.

Unless you know that you don't like what the cedar will impart upon the cigar as it ages, leave it on. The cigar is made and intended to be aged with the cedar imparting its own charistics upon the cigar.
I like to put the cedar wrapper in my ash tray in my truck. The ashes can be hot and tend to burn the cedar a little bit, which smells really great. I guess lighting a cigar with the cedar still on is kind of like lighting a cigarette filter.
