Let me say thanks to "lkbigfish" for sending me these 2fer smokes.

I just smoked a "Joya del Jefe cigar" and here is my review for those that have never tried it.

This was the robusto size. Construction was very good and the cap was spongie. (used a punch)
The draw was easy and it produced alot of creamy smoke.
This is a very mild cigar, the taste was woody, hints of cedar maybe. Had to let it burn hot at times to get a little spice. The finish was on the dry side.
The ash was peppery and it held on for almost an inch at first.
The burn was uneven , had to nurse it a couple of times.
Overall this mild 2fer was pretty good. I wouldnt buy a box but maybe a couple. (.90 cents @CI) Smile

Congratulations, you just wasted an hour of your life on a 90-cent cigar and you will never get that hour back. Wouldn't it be better to spend $3 to $6 and enjoy the experience completely rather than make excuses for a piece of crap? No junk in 2007!

Better than spending an hour working! I've always been curious about some of these "cheaper" cigars, but never wanted to waste the money to find out that they were dog rockets, so I appreciate someone doing it for me Wink

The marketing of some of these cigars make them sound decent, like Pirates Gold from Rolando Reyes (Puros Indios) for example. I mean, you read about them being made from the same tobacco, same factory, blah blah blah...and you think "O.K., maybe worth a shot for a buck a cigar. Pirates Gold, imho, was not. But I'm afraid that I'll miss a real gem if I don't give a few a try. One in that category for me right now is the CI Legends series. I'm on the fencepost about even trying those right now...don't want to spend money for lousy cigars. On the opposite end of the spectrum I just recently got some Padilla Achilles, which by all accounts should have been superb cigars...they weren't. So what's a guy to do?

if you don't try it, you'll never know. and some of us cheap bastids are always looking for that low-cost gem, which occasionally comes along.

If they could sell them for $5 instead of $1 each, believe me they would. Don't waste your money...why spend $30 (plus shipping and tax) on 20 cigars you'll never smoke when you could buy 5 good ones that you will look forward to smoking and enjoy.

"Being cheap" is a dumb excuse for buying garbage -- after all, would you rather buy a $20 pair of boots at Wal-Mart that last you one season, or a $75 pair of Timberlands that last 10 years? Penny wise, pound foolish. But hey, your dough...

Recently I've found myself in a bit of an economic crunch if you will since I am starting my own business. Having said that I was looking for a less expensive cigar to smoke and found the AF Curly Head. Now this is one ugly looking cigar but the flavor of it is fantastic. I have also found that I can get a decent deal on CI for cigars in some of their daily and weekly specials. Now you might not get a full count of 20 or 25 like in most boxes but the deals aren't too bad. I'm just patient and wait till cigars I know I'll enjoy go on sale. I won't smoke a dog rocket any longer if I can help it. Sometimes though there is a cigar that just catches your eye and you have to try it...but that's how you find out what you like and what you don't like. I agree the premium cigars are much better but they do come at a higher price. Like anything in life when you want a lower price sometimes you have to give a little in quality and construction.

Years ago my grandfather and I would go to the grocery store and buy nearly every 3 ltr of ginger ale they had. It was a store brand and was the best ginger ale either of use had had before. It wasn't sweet and had a nice ginger pop to it. It was also cheap as dirt. Later they changed the formulation for the beverage and the days of good cheap GA were over.

It is rare that something is great and also cheap. I leave the door open that a cigar will meet this standard one day, but it really isn't likely. Good rollers will be put on better lines to work on. Good cigars need high quality aged tobacco, which is expensive and takes time (money). I think my efforts are focused on what high quality cigars are worth the money, and I try to keep my everyday smoke to $3-5 a stick. I find that right now I can find good sticks in this price range.

One day my tastes or the products may change and I will have to pay more or smoke less. For now, I will let the dog rockets stay in the tuppordor for moochers, and try to trade/sell good sticks I just don't like. I am increasingly protective of my "cigar time" and I want sure things.

THANK YOU! I really enjoyed this cigar, and like I said it was a gift. So that hour I wasted on this cigar was well spent doing something I enjoy! So who cares if I never get it back jack!

C'mon guys...

Let people try what they want... We all know that taste is very subjective...

I like to hear others experiences, bad and good; but, expecially the bad...saves me time!

I am also a believer that you get what you pay for; and, I'm done with the inexpensive bargains... When I'm trying to be frugal, I stay around $5/stick from the local shop. I know it will be properly humidified, and won't be a dog-rocket.
