Altadis is suing Pete Johnson.

http://forums.cigaraficionado..../6346086/m/269103056

I'm not a lawyer, but I have significant background in intellectual property law thanks to my years in advertising.

Altadis has no case. Unfortunately, they have the financial resources to bully Pete Johnson into settling because he cannot afford to lose.

My solution?

I will stop purchasing Altadis products until they withdraw the suit. This is corporate bullying, plain and simple, and legally baseless to boot. A classic case of a company that cannot equal the quality of a smaller one using the only tactic it can to stem the other's success. Pathetic and worthy of every cigar smoker's sh!t list.

What are the Altadis brands?
I think they make the knock off non Cuban Cohibas, Partagas, RyJ, Montes, etc... right??
Nothing one can't live without.

Advocating boycotts, especially cA advertisers, is frowned upon here.

Altadis, unfortunately, has 50% ownership of Habanos to my understanding. However, I would love to get a list of brands that they market in America to avoid paying them any money.

Don't stress, I think a lot of people here have been boycotting Altadis cigars way before this lawsuit nonsense

I avoid their NC products anyway, most of them as dog rockets. But i am not going to avoid all SA Habanos just because of a silly lawsuit.

Judging by Doc's daily thread, I think there is a "natural" boycott already going on.

I wouldn't necessary boycott the big companies since they're the ones with enough political clout and money to stand a chance against anti-tobacco advocates & lawmakers. I just choose not to purchase any of Altadis' cigars because they just don't taste that great to me.

Except for the Habanos, there's nothing on that list that I would buy. Easy boycott.

Altadis is 100% owned by Imperial Tobacco. You might want to boycott them too.

Out of one, many.

I know right. thats what im thinking. I don't think people realize that if altaldis went bankrupt that would be horrible for cuban cigars.
