Toasted Coastie, I think DanielChristian just wanted to vent. So DanielChristian, I assume that you live in Canada and had the product shipped to you from the U.S. right? Anyways, sorry about the charge but it happens often if you read some of the other threads
"Is that a Churchill cigar in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
customs in Canada are calculated depending on the weather outside, how much sex the custom official had that morning, and probably what he ate for breakfast.. it is a huge mistery to us mere mortals..
I'll give you a few examples of duties I've been charged:
750$ for a box of 25ct Diplomatico #2 (box was bought for 240$)
over 500 CDN$ paid on a 25ct box of Diplomatico #5 (box was bought for about 100$)
45$ customs paid for 2 boxes of 12ct Trinidad robusto extra (each box was paid over 250$)
700$ for 12 Bolivar DC middle-east RE that my friend had sent me from Korea (these weren't coming from a vendor.. rather from a guy.. just like you and me)
does that give you a good idea of how messed up these guys are ?? I stopped wondering, and just started accepted my faith.. and every time I get nabbed, I tell myself that at least OFAC will not come after me.. all they want, is to tax the living $hit out of me...
wow that sounds pretty bad salibas007, so since you live in Canada. Wouldn't it be easier if you just drove to the U.S., bought the cigars here and then drive back across the border? Of course that only applies to NC cigars and if you are close to the border. Unless you have a P.O. Box I guess
"Is that a Churchill cigar in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
yes it does.. except that i don't buy NC's... all my experiences were were CC's coming from europe.. but I assume the same would hold for NC's ordered from the US..
driving down to the US to pick up NC's would work, but in order to have the 50 cigar exemption, one would have to spend 48hrs in the USA.. less than that, and i think there is no exemption at all..
I didn't know they check so thoroughly for people entering Canada, shows what I know about the northern borders. Salibas, what I was saying is that maybe you could get a P.O. Box in the U.S., order the cigars, and go and get them when they arrive. But I guess a lot of the vendors don't ship to P.O. boxes anyway
"Is that a Churchill cigar in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
But it all funds your wonderful healthcare system, guys! You should be writing letters to your government thanking them for taking care of you every time you get the sniffles, you know, for FREE (haha -- "free").
Hey liberals, ever wonder how Hillary is going to fund her big plans for you? Take a guess at what is going to be taxed more stringently.

Hope you knew in advance they were coming! Wouldn't that be a surprise to get a 'gift' that you had to pay a $700 duty on?
