Are you kidding? I have never met a cigar smoker who would enjoy a cigar with a person under the age of 18 in a car..once again the anti-tobacco nut balls want to lump cigars and cigarettes together..The problem is with this legislation is first its don't smoke with juveniles in the car, but next it is to outright ban smoking in cars all together..GIVE ME A BREAK...who is going to enforce that law? We have enough problems trying to stop real criminals, gang bangers and other theives and scumbags. Come on folks. Ridiculous. Whats next are we going to ban feeding your kids McDonalds or Pizza? GEEZ..
Those who do not fight evil, command it to be done.
I used to smoke cigars with kids in the car all the time. Of course, I was 16 at the time and the others were 16-18 but everyone seemed to turn out all right. They're all still alive, anyway. Wonder how someone would have written that ticket up.
I think I read somewhere that in the year or so since Arkansas enacted its smoking ban in cars with kids, police have written about six tickets.
I think it would be pretty easy with a FOIA request to find out just how many tickets these cities and states have written. Not many, I bet.
I can't imagine any police wanting to enforce this. At 45 mph or a stoplight, how do you tell the difference from a 16 and an 18-year-old? And what about a 16-year-old smoking in car full of other teenagers?
When my kids were little we didn't have car seats as we know them today, rather we had a seat that hung over the front seat and it had a little steering wheel for the little guy to play with.
I smoked cigars and cigarettes back then and I smoked in the car.
Although I would not smoke in the car now, just because I don't care to, I do not like the idea that the government has their noses in another of our freedoms.

You will enforce that law just like you enforce the seatbelt law who are you kidding. You guys love that stuff you get to pull people over and play the role. In the end its all about control and revenue.

"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "
Laws like this seem to be a solution in search of a problem. I can't imagine that smoking in a car filled with children is either that common or significantly more of a sustained threat than smoking in a house with them in it.

You make a point. No doubt, our job is to enforce the laws passed by the politicians. (even if we disagree with them) One thing to remember is most Police Departments allow their Officers to have discretion on this type of enforcement though, especially because it really does not put someone else on the road's safety at risk. I would say the chance of being stopped by the police for a "cigar violation" is probably going to be an extremely infrequent occurance.

Thats right you better believe this is gonna lead to bigger and better things. The Nazis are out in full force. Its a slow and gradual stripping of your freedom by the time you realize it its gone and you never get it back.

To set the record straight...quotas are a myth. Police and politicians cannot place "quota" requirements of law enforcement officers. There are cops who have gone years without issuing a ticket or summons.

A detective friend/acquaintance of mine likes to request traffic patrol every once in a while just for fun. And this guy has so much fun driving around handing out tickets. He'll look for anything to ticket, just for kicks. Then he goes back to the station and brags to all the rookies about how many tickets he issued in one shift. Not a quota, but definitely competition!
And he is a pr!ck all the time, not just at work.

Well i beg to differ my buddy is in Hwy 3 in Brooklyn. And while they don't give him a quota per say. His pep talk goes something like this we get 75 tickets a month in this sector don't come in with any less.
