As of today. All cigarettes are now covered from view. And you cannot enter the walk in humidor.
I'm not sure if all cigar stores are affected.
The Holly smokes store I went to today had all the cigrettes covered, the humidor was mirrored off and a sign read that you are not allowed to enter any more, just ask the clerk for the product you want and they will get it for you.
Damn this sucks

Sorry to hear this, but Canada has long since ceased to be a cigar-smoker's paradise.

Isn't big government wonderful? It knows what is best for us, and is so very efficient at what it does.
Has your government told you what the next issue they will decide on your behalf? Remember, they only want to help you and have your best interests in mind when they make decisions for you.

When i was a young man i was in fact a Liberal.I protested all the wrong i saw.As i matured i began to see that there constant law making to protect the people was in fact putting more restrictions on them.Someone once said to much freedom can indeed be a bad thing.

Many US states have laws which are just as restrictive as ours (well, as Ontario's). Last time I checked, California, for example, was still a US state.

Sheep, I think it was Winston Churchill who said, if you are not aliberal when you are young you have no heart and if you are not a conservative when you are older you have no head.
back to the original thread. I guess unlike most of you I do not have a favorite cigar. I enjoy going into the humidor and picking out a different one to try.

You are indeed correct Flashman the Liberal majority in California has passed more laws for the good of the people than any other state in the union. After all it is only because they love Californian's and need to protect them because as all Liberals see it they are all to dumb to think for themselves. Actually it is not just California but all over America. The Liberals in the states have slowly legislated more freedoms away each year.

Correct Mr. Zappa! My sarcasm was a general statement, not pointed to my friends up North.

I haven't been over to any tobacconists in Ontario in a few weeks, but my reading of the law and conversations with convenience store owners and tobacco store owners leads me to believe dedicated smoke shops that make the bulk of their revenue from cigar/pipe tobacco sales -- not cigarettes -- may permit viewing of the humidor contents and entering by customers.
Cigarettes, however, must be hidden from view, even in a cigar store. This is what a Casa del Habano owner in Windsor, Ont., told me a few months back.
A Holy Smokes in a Loblaws -- is that the right chain? -- would not qualify, since the store sells other products.
I disagree that American laws are starting to mirror Canada's on this issue, however. American courts have consistently struck down laws that attempted to ban tobacco products and/or advertising from view as infringing on the First Amendment free-speech rights of the tobacco companies and merchants.
Last time I checked, California, for example, was still a US state.
Weeelll, SORT of. California is very different from the other 49.
