Hi, My wife bought me a Victorian sytle humidor from cheaphumidors.com a few years ago. It holds around 300 cigars. It's got four legs about two feet long and then there's the humidor part. I find I can't maintain a constant humidity in the humidor. I'm using a Cigar Oasis. The humidor opens from the top and there are two racks which you can lift up to get to the large storage area. This is where I keep the Cigar Oasis. Beneath this is a fairly large drawer which holds around 60 cigars. The drawers are like a desk drawer. There is no opening between this compartment and the upper compartment where the Cigar Oasis is. There is a piece of wood without a hole between the top of the shelf on the bottom and the large storage area on the top. Is it possible for the humidity to be the same without any holes? Does the wood breath to allow the humidity to equilibrate?
I happen to like the way the humidor looks and my wife likes it because she bought it, but I'm wondering about the quality of the humidor. I think she paid about $200 for it. I'm thinking about reinforcing the bottom of the humidor and the top with Spanish Cedar. I'm also thinking about drilling several large holes to connect the bottom shelf to the area where the Cigar Oasis is. What I have no idea about is how to tell if there is a leak? Can I caulk inside the humidor where the edges of the wood meet to prevent a leak? The top of humidor is around 68 and the bottom is around 58. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My thoughts are that the bottom shelf sounds like an accessory drawer. If there is no holes I think you would have to put a drymist stick or something in the bottom to regulate the humidity.
Good luck.
