Hi, thanks in advance for the replies (if any, lol) ..probably a dumb question, but can smoking 1 or 2 cigars every few months be detrimental to my health (can that little of smoking cause cancer)?..Can I become addicted that easily, as I am not now, my friends from my old town and I just get together once every few months a smoke a cigar or two.

it doesn't matter if you smoke 1 or 2 a day or 1 or 2 a month, it'll still make you prone to cancer, but the way i see it, we're all going to die sometime in our lives, so live life to the fullest and have a good time, ya know?

If you do not inhale, have regular dental checkups and visit your doctor annually, then smoking a cigar once or twice a month should not do you any significant harm.

I see patients all the timne who never smoked or drank and have cancer, heart disease and other ailments that will probably cause their demise.

A lot has to do with your genes and with luck.

Of course, I don't have any data to back this up, but I personally would be more afraid of preservatives, processed/synthetic foods, prescription-happy doctors, etc. We are exposed to an enormous amount of carcinogens every day - even grilled food has been proven somewhat carcinogenous. Heck, bananas are radioactive and will set off a Geiger counter! 1-2 cigars per month is nothing.

As far as 1-2 a month being addictive, it really depends on your personality. If you have a personality that is prone to addiction, it may be enough to get you addicted. There have been several studies about addiction that seem to indicate that, while certain substances are more or less addictive than others, the addiction is based more off the individual than anything else. Addicts will be addicted to something whether it is socially acceptable or not - drugs, tobacco, alcohol, sex, video games, food, adrenaline, or a hobby - it is still an addiction - the only difference is that some addictions will kill you and others are less likely to, and some are acceptible in society and some are not. The actual addiction is the same.

I smoke a few a week and my Dr. basically told me not to worry about it. I'm in good health and the amount I smoke, according to him, wouldn't cause him to consider me a smoker. Works for me.

Ditto. Did my yearly physical this past week and when the doc asked if I smoked I gave him my normal cigars reply. He listed me as a non-smoker. To give one of my favorite quotes by George Burns, "If I had quit smoking cigars when my doctor told me to, I never would have lived to go to his funeral."

I smoke 2-3 a week along with my pipe and my doctor doesn't classify me as a smoker. I also drink wine and scotch several times a week. My doc doesn't mind and doesn't scold me into quitting. Not that I would anyway. Few things give me greater pleasure than smoking a fine cigar and drinking a fine single-malt scotch. A man needs his vice.
