I'm looking to get a digital hygorometer for my humidor. While on an auction site I found a few that are pretty cheap and new. It's a Fluker's Digital Reptile Thermo-Hygrometer. Obviously, the reptile part has me wondering if it will work in my humidor. The following is an excerpt from the auction site:

A convenient digital thermometer and hygrometer for use in reptile and amphibian habitats. Easily switches between Fahrenheit and Celsius readings. Records minimum and maximum temperature and relative humidity. Slim and compact design measures approximately 4” x 1-1/4” x ½” thick. Measures 0º to 50º / 32º to 122º F with 0.1º resolution, 20 to 99% Relative Humidity with 1% resolution. Operates on (1) 3.0V CR2032 battery (included). Unit cannot be submerged in water

This item is new, factory sealed in its original box.

Will this work guys? IF not, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thx guys.

TX:

I'm sure it'd work. I always recommend customers to buy digital hygrometers to replace the typical analog dials that come with humidors when you buy them, (analogs I've found are cheaply made and almost never accurate). However, at the same time, I've sat 3 digitals in my humidor at one time and had all of them reading different RH's, +-5 deviation. As long as you're not paying more than 30 bucks, you should be good to go. However, always trust your instinct over a hygrometer, feel your cigars from time to time regardless of what the hygrometer reads.

Puff in Peace,
Jack

It might work, if you get it real cheap you can always buy it and salt test it. If it doesn't work you can just buy a new one. If you can get it, but for like $15-$20, I would say go to Radioshack. I have 2 of their temp/hygro's and each is within 1% accurate.

Thx for the advice guys. Jack, as far as trusting my instincts about the hygrometer and checking the cigars by feeling them, that could be a problem. I'm new to cigars and am not even sure how a properly cigar should look and feel. I know this is something that I'll just have to learn with experience. Either way, I'm going to get the hygrometer from the auction site and I'll test it when it comes in.

Thx again for the help.

I use the fluker's too - smaller than the csonka, diamond crow, or other digital hygrometers; I got mine for about $4.99 a piece.

They work fine in both my humidors.

Hey Willie, did you get yours off an auction site or did you buy it direct for that price. If direct, where from ?
