An age old question...Are most cigar smokers dog people or cat people. I must cast my vote in favor of man's best friend. Curious to see on what side of this fence other cigar fans will end up

...Until recently, I had always been a cat guy. But, then my wife and I got us my first dog. Man's best friend is the perfect term to describe my Canine.

Dogs take what looks to be a slim lead.

Personally, I really can't see hanging out with a cat while you're enjoying your favorite smoke.

have had 3 or 4 of each in my life, and although they both have personalities, a dogs is much more fun and rewarding to have around.

I always wanted a dog, but mom was smart enough to know who the responsibilities would actually fall to after a few months so we never had one. Should I ever have a beach house where I could smoke on the porch, a dog would be great. The act of finding doggy-sitters when you want to go way dog-less, letting out for pee and walking a couple times a day holds me back from seriously looking.

When I met my wife she had a cat (which I detested). I now have a full-fledged adopted son who weighs 15 lbs and answers to "Tigger".
EDIT- I should add that Tig. follows me around the house, I find him asleep in my lap or on my chest when I nap on the couch and is always wherever I/we am/are in the house. VERY people-oriented.
I hate to say it, but cats all thew way.

Cats and dogs both make terrific pets.

However dogs tend to be more of a hang around with people type of animal. They love to go on car rides, they love going campling, fishing, hunting, softball etc. Anything goes with a dog. BUT they need care, training and companionship to be at their happy best. They love you whether you are rich, poor, handsome or butt ugly. They help the blind, protect children & homes and can be taught a 100 things.

Cats on the other hand are more controlable in one way and completely wild in another way. They lie around the house and sleep, purr, chase a moth & eat it aand maybe catch a mouse if it knows how. Let the unneutered female out when she is in heat and she will do every male within a few mile of of home. She'll happily come back to have her litter under the sink or in some box in a basement corner. Let the unneutered male out, and he'll roam, fight, get torn up and you just might find him squashed on the road, his body flat and the eyes & tongue bulging out of his head.

I grew up with a dog and I could never ask for another dog that was better. I always thought I would get a dog for myself when I moved out on my own. Life happens and here I am a proud cat owner. Cats take care of themselves, which allows me to be at work all of the time. She is a wonderful cat. When I smoke in the loft, she breaks in to keep my husband and I company. When we smoke on the porch, she watches from the door hoping to get her chance to come out with us.
Hopefully we will get a dog also.

My cat Bootsy is sitting on my lap while I'm smoking a Punch Black Prince and typing this. AND, he goes out & walks himself!

I have both a dog and a cat; however, the dog is the one that likes to be with me when I'm sitting around having a cigar. She just loves to lay there next to my chair, waiting for me to reach over and rub her belly.

Now if only my wife would do that. (Oops, did I say that out loud?) Big Grin

Interesting mix from the cigar smoking gallery. I'd have to say pretty balanced. Not much of a cat fan myself so I'll stick with the hound

I grew up with a few dogs from my favorite was a Wimeriner , I had the runt of the littler, coulnt ask for a better dog, , he would get between me & my parents when I got yelled at , he was there to protect me hahahaha, Doc was his name, my little brother had trouble saying Dog , we had him 14 years , I still miss having him with me when I go for a walk in the early morning, when I got married & had a little girl she wanted a kitten so we had cats from the time she was 3 or 4 till she got married & moved out & took the cat with her, my wife & I got an other cat , but he moved to her place one week when we were out of town & never came home with me , he is now the old man of a harium at my daughters house & loving every second of it she has 3 females & I think he has knocked them all up a few times !, Any one want a kitten ???? he is now fixed & she has a few still hanging arround !
so i guess you should count me on both sides of the ledger, , right now we are petless , but who knows what the next day will bring ! Enjoy, Vince

Never understood how people could hate dogs or cats in general. I've had both in my time here on Earth and enjoy the company of both equally.

Currently I've only got a cat. A nearly 18lb. jet black persian/mountain lion who stands at more than 16 inches from the shoulder, loves nothing more than sitting with me on the couch, meets me at the door when I come home, loves a good chin rub, has incisors that are visible when his mouth is closed and can pierce denim, whose paws are nearly as big as my palm, and purs louder than an idling Italian sports car.
