with HDNet. They are running an episode of InFocus right now called "Sleek Dreams." It is about the design and construction of the Maserati Birdcage Pininfarina designed in 2005. Awesome show, well worth watching.

Here is an article about the car if you are interested.

Don't worry, that car will soon show up on a thread called "Best Maserati to smoke a cigar in".

Beautiful car. The second article about design behind the car was great. 700 hp and ~3500 lbs makes for incredible acceleration. Any guesses on 0-60?

down hill ever since

Cloud nine gets all the publicity, but cloud eight actually is cheaper, less crowded, and has a better view.

The car itself is conceptual (duh), but until I watched the show I never knew anything about the actual process. Four artists sketched for several weeks, then they made the entire shell of the car out of foam (incredible process -- the workmen are incredibly skilled) . . . it's unreal how much work goes into every tiny detail.

I recorded the show a few days ago and my six year-old son watched it with me last night. He was fascinated by all of it. He loved Okuyama's 1999 Ferrari concept, the rossa ,that is on the program near the beginning -- couldn't stop talking about it.

The makers of the Lada forgot to advance beyond the foam stage.
