I need some guidance here... My wife just bought me a number of 5 packs from Famous Smoke just the other day for Xmas(I know because she asked me what to get). This is my first go around with mail order of cigars and I am not sure how they pack them; i.e. humidification or no. Now I know my wife is going to want to put them away until Xmas but I am thinking that I may want to open the package up as so as I get it to get them in my humi ASAP.

So my question is, if they get here this Thurs/Fri, would it be fine to leave them until Tuesday morning or should I do what my gut says and open them up immediately?

Thanks in advance!

I would open them right away. You realy don't want to leave them out of the humidor that long.

If you plan on smoking them soon, yes, put them in the humidor immediately. If you leave them wrapped until Tuesday, you just need to be sure to let them rest in the humidor a bit longer before smoking them, maybe two weeks.

I buy from FSS a lot. Get them in the humi ASAP. If you bought a box of Arturo Fuentes, most come with Boveda humidipacks inside. Boxes that have a little icon of a blue water droplet stuck on the box cover have a Boveda humidifier inside.

Thanks guys! No boxes, they are all 5 packs bc I wanted a variety... so knowing that they will not have any type of humi pak in there, I will be sure to get them in my humi ASAP.

With that being said, since I have to wait until Xmas anyway, is that a long enough period before I can light one up? I am VERY excited about a few of them; DPG Blue and AF Don Carlos, neither of which I've tried. So needless to say Xmas day would be tough to resist... but if I must, I must.

Thanks again!

It's always a good idea to let mail order cigars sit in your humidor for a week or two before smoking them so they can recouperate from their time in the mail- usually cold and dry in winter time! Since you know what the gift is already, open 'em up and put 'em in the humi!(Unless your wife is VERY sneaky and got you something different than the plan! Wink)

Two of my favorites. Actually the AF Don Carlos is probably my all time favorite, and that includes Opus X. And the DP Blue is probably in my top five. Enjoy!

That is great to hear!... but you definitely didn't help curb my enthusiasm towards smoking one on Xmas day! haha!

I think I figured it out, I am going to head to one of my local B&Ms and see if I can find a AF Don Carlos & DPG so that I can have the others rest for a while... or I could just go back to the Oliva Vs. We'll see but it sounds like patience is key when it comes to mail order!

Nah. She really doesn't have a clue regarding what to get. She was hesitant to ask me but she wanted to make sure she was getting something that I wanted. Open'em up and in they go!

Just send me one every 5 days and I'll let you know when they are good to smoke.

Put them in the humidor. You don't have to unwrap the packages because moisture will get in there, but in the winter, at least here in the Northeast whewre the heat is on and the air is dry, they could suffer from the dryness.
