Hi

Bringing cigars/cigarettes into Norway is not that easy as we are only allowed to bring in 250g (about 9 ounces) duty free when we travel...we can bring in more but after the first 9 ounces we have to pay about 10$ per ounce of tobacco. Well, enough with the complaining of Norwegian taxes I'm planning on buying some cigars online (on e.g. cigars.com) and send them to my sister who lives in the US. My mum is heading over to the States soon I'll get her to bring the cigars back. So what I'm thinking about is buying 10-20 cigars to give me a variety of taste. Here are some of the cigars that I have put on the list so far:

  • Oliva Serie V torpedo
  • Ashton VSG (Virgin Sun Grown) torpedo
  • Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Maduro Epicure
  • San Cristobal Monumento
  • La Flor Domincana Double Ligero Chisel
  • Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic 1979
  • Gran Habano 3 Siglos Gran Robusto
  • Padilla Signature 1932 Lancero
  • The Edge Sumatra Toro
  • Carlos Torano Exodus 1959
  • Tatuaje Noella

Do you have any advice for a newbie? Should I buy smaller and cheaper cigars? At the moment I have looked at the top 25 list here at Cigar aficionado. Got any advice? Thanks in advance Big Grin

You may want to try some of these as well...

Illusione cg4
Nubs
AVO LE-07
Sosa Super Select (not the regular Sosa line)
Winston Churchill #10
Camacho Diploma
Alec Bradly Tempus (new line)
Premir Mundo Maduro
CAO Brazilia (you'll hear good & bad about this one, but you need to try it and decide for yourself)
Padron Anni. 1926

Anyway, there are a few more for you...

I'm only relatively new to this game myself, but I would recommend an Arturo Fuente Opus X B, possibly the nicest I've ever smoked, and have a couple stashed away for a special day.

I have also got a box of H Upman Vintage Cameroon which I like.

Finally, also like Padron 1926 Serie 2 but these aren't too cheap so guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Enjoyed a Sosa cigar recently, but cannot remember for the life of me which one it was!

Sure some more knowledgeable chaps will be along shortly, but my twopenneth.

Gotta try some Arturo Fuente Hemingways. Short Storys are popular. I love the Signature.

Hi

Feel free to mention other online stores where I can buy single cigars. I see some online stores only offer boxes.

Hey man, I am farily new to the game myself and have already found that I enjoy a a medium to full bodied cigar, i skipped past the light stuff. That Ashton VSG is great, I have smoked one and it was the first cigar I ever noticed a flavor change in as I smoked it.
I am also very fond of the Oliva O serious Maduro, I prefere the touble toro i think it is, like i said still new, it is the fattest Oliva O maduro that i have seen.
I also tried a Rocky Patel Sun Grown the other day and found it rather tasty. Hope that helps a little one newbie to another.

I actually buy most of my Cubans at the Duty free in the Airport in Oslo, in particular the Monte's and PSD4. They also have a good selection of Punch, but only by the full size box (20 or 25 count) so it gets expensive.

Yes, the duty free prices here are quite good. For reference I can tell you that a 3 pack on Montrecristo no. 2 is about 190 kroner at the duty free (about 37.5 USD) while it is 475 Nok (about 94 USD) at the local tobacco store Eek
