I am thinking about buying some cigars online. Do you think this is a bad idea? Has anyone done this before and do you have any recommendations for a sight from which to do this?

I swear by atlanticcigars.com. I used to by from Abner's world and JRCigars, but atlantic has the best prices and service so far.

seriouscigars.com is a great store. I have ordered many times from them and have had really great results. Once I got some damaged cigars from them and based on the way they took care of me afterwards, I even felt a little guilty! Great shop.
As your profile doesn't tell me where you live it's hard to give advice. Buying online give a far better selection and likely some cost savings to buying locally. Do some shopping and don't forget to include shipping when figuring who has the best deal. I concur with those who said Atlantic has great service. White Ash and Mr. Bundles have also done well by me.

Nothing beats buying at your local B&M. Building relantionships & friends as well as hanging out and smoking a cigar & getting the latest scoop on new cigars.Being able to try one stick at a time and having someone to come back to if you have a problem with a stick.
Also enjoy the events that go on & meeting the manufacturers and learning what the industry is doing.
Not to mention after shipping & now taxing, it all comes out about the same at your local B&M.

i agree with emerald to a point. used to work at a local shop and had alot of fun with the customers. however, there are just some amazing deals online that most B&M stores just cannot beat. whether its one of CI "one day deal" or something, some of the prices are just hard to beat. then on top of all that, you have T******* suckin noobs in with there prices, and they never look back.

thanks everyone for the tips. I purchased from Holts.com and it was a very good experience.
Emeraldsmoke - I agree about the local shops. I have two, one near work and one at home. Both get a fair share of my online poker winnings. Just wanted to save on a box purchase.
