I was reading one of Suckling's blogs and he said something to the extent of his cigar "crackling" as he took some draws. Well, for the first time i could remember, i was taking a big draw on my Monte #2, and about one minute into the cigar, it began to "CRACKLE". what a beautiful sound nonetheless. My cigars have been aging for about a month now, so i am curious as to what this means and says about a cigar in general.
thoughts????
thanks in advance.

lol!!! frying beetles???? sounds like a drug term.
anyhow, according to Suckling's blog, it is supposed to be a good thing. but i was just curious as to, scientifically speaking, what is the root cause?
crackling w/out peeling = good RH?
sure as heck cant be too dry because my Torpedo probably would have came apart or burned unevenly or quickly.

The first time this happened to me I thought I was hearing beetles pop! It can also happen while lighting the cigar. I have witnessed little pops on the foot during toasting. Kind of freekie.

I've never had a distinct "crackle" in my cigars before. I have been lead to believe that it can actually be beetles popping. Can anyone confirm or dispute the idea?

A friend and I bought a couple of C.A.O. Mx2's at a local tobacconist's a couple of weeks ago. We smoked them that night and his crackled like kindling and kind of unravelled. Mine wasn't bad but seemed a little dry. They were still stored in the cellophane and when he took the band off it was a different shade underneath. I suspect that they were stored there way too long in the cello. Maybe a little more storage in your humidor would alleviate the crackling? Just a guess...
Needless to say, that was the first and last smoke I buy from them...

Not an expert here, but find it hard to conjure up anything positive about a cigar crackling.

Well, i gotta say the crackling thing is just something that Suckling stated in his blog. When i heard it, i did NOT experience any unraveling or anything unusual. Maybe they are Beetle bombs. Who knows. But to me, it is s nice sound.

I have noticed that when my cigars are on the drier side I may sometimes hear that crackling noise when they're not no noises.
If you have a beetle infestation and still decide to smoke your stogie you may happen to hear that little popping sound which is a beetle meeting the flame.

See, i dont know about the whole beetle meeting flame theory, or even Larvae bombs. This topic had me thinking about this when i was outside last night enjoying my Monte #2. Let me share this interesting scenario with you sirs.
When i used to smoke bud/chronic, You could hear the bud crackling when u took a big championship hit. But every now and then, unless it was sensimilia, u could hear the seed POP. It was a different sound. The crackling i believe Suckling and i are referring to has to do with the tobacco itself. So in short:
Beautiful Cigar crackling sounds = NO BEETLES!!!!
