I broke down and ordered a Cigar Oasis Plus. I have no patience with trying to keep the relative humidity at an optimal level. I have tossed out lots of cigars that were probably too wet, or needed aging, or were dry ... all I know is that when I want a cigar I just want it to not have draw, burn, or taste problems.
But my question. I only have a 300 count humidor. So I think that the Cigar Oasis Plus was getting a bit carried away? Even if that is true, will it still work OK? Or is the Plus model "only" for much larger humidors?
Please, comments & suggestions. Thanks! Ron

The Plus is overkill for a humidor that size, but it won't hurt anything. It is an active system so it only comes on when humidity is needed.
It's like putting a 500HP engine in a VW Bug. It's there if you need it, but 90% of the time you won't even be scratching the surface of it's capabilities.
problem is there is nothing that will take the humidity out if it gets too high, which sounds like part of the problem.......beads might be a good thing to add too...
The control circuit is pretty good on an Oasis, so it isn't like it runs and puts so much excess humidity into the environemnt and then does have a way to take it out. I have a friend who is an infrequent smoker and after checking his humi and finding cracked cigars from not filling the elements for "a few months" I finally convinced him to get the regular Oasis.
In his 100ct humi (which is probably a 75 count humi in real-world terms) it works like a charm. He only has to remember to fill it once every 2-3 months.
In my large humidor I've gone to a system that uses a large foam oasis and some beads in the same humidor. I put the distilled water on the oasis only, and the beads just absorb the extra moisture as necessary. The system works great, and I'm sure it would work fine in a 300 count humi. My suggestion is that you buy a larger humidor to give your Oasis Plus a proper home

the good thing here is that probably sooner than later, you will want to upgrade to a larger humi.(heck we all do eventually), and you'll have the oasis for use then, so you're not really losing anything...just overkill for current situation, but later you'll be able to save that cost off a cabinet or whatever

Upgrades are inevitable. Mine will soon be a coolerdor (plans courtesy of Diehardpuffer). I am excited about using the beads which I am not using right now. The best part of the beads imho is that it not only brings rh up to where you need it but it also will bring it down if it gets too high.
Great and very helpful comments...all of them. Thank you!
Is it ok to use the beads in addtion to the Oasis Plus? Where I live we tend to get a lot of cool, foggy weather. Maybe that means I have more of problem with too much RH? The beads could bring the RH down, and then the Oasis Plus could help if the RH gets too low? (Or is this crazy thinking?)
As for upgrading...I am already thinking of very soon buying a much bigger humidor. Bigger seems once again to be better.

To me it seems the beads would be the exact opposite of what you want. I've never used beads, but wouldn't the Oasis have to be finely tuned with the beads in order for them to work in unison properly? I would think the beads would absorb any "extra" humidity, therefore making the Oasis turn on more frequently. Is this not right?

Now that I ordered the Cigar Oasis Plus, I found out that there are new models coming out around October 1st. My order should arrive in a couple of days, and I hope that Atlantic Cigar will let me return it for refund or cred8t.
The new models are: Cigar Oasis XL (up to 400 cigars) and Cigar Oasis Plus XL (500 and up to 3000+ cigars).
The new features are impressive. A built-in hygrometer (which allegedly is already calibrated...no salt test needed). Plus it comes with its own battery pack as well as electric cord...you can use one or the other, or both for someone concerned about power outages.
