I know a lot of people ask questions about Humidors, but I wanted some more information.
I have had the same Humidor for a while now. It keeps my cigars in good condition, but I am looking to get a new one.
I have been smoking cigars for about 7 years.
My brother bought me a pretty big humidor, but now I am looking for something else. I would really like a humidor that stands alone. Can hold my cigars as well as tools. Right now, my Humidor sits on one of my side tables.
COuld you guys tell me some of the best and resonably priced Humidors?

I think you should look into cheaphumidors.com and tampahumidors.com
They both have a large selection of very good humidors and they even have "blemished" sections where you can find a high quality humidor at a lesser price. It seems to be the consensus that you have to look pretty hard to find a blemish.

Yes? I mean, of course you can. If you mean to refurbish the box, well it's just wood, man. You can refinish it, wax it, buff it, whatever you want. Go to town and do a piano lacquer job.
If you just mean re-season, then of course you can do that as well. Clean it out, blow out any dust that you can, and slowly bring it back up to whatever RH you prefer. But do it slowly as the wood is probably very dry (depending on where you live) and a slow re-hydration help ensure that it does not warp or crack.
It is spanish cedar lined, yes?

Possibly outside the definition of reasonably priced, but I've been researching a new humidor myself and am somewhat torn between these two cabinet humidors. The Aristocrat and the Vigilant
Both have the auto temp and humidity control, which I really like. Basically set it and forget it.
What I don't understand is what accounts for the difference in the two units? Both appear to be handcrafted and have many of the same features, yet the Vigilant is much more expensive. Anyone able to provide some insight?

FS, see my post above. What issues are you concerned about regarding re-hydrating your old humidor, exactly?
If it is stained or dirty on the inside, you can lightly sand the lining to give it new life and aroma, but either way it should come back and work 100%.

i guess possible contamination. Being that i dont remember how it was seasoned, etc? i believe i used Tap water mixed with some mickey mouse solution, i dont know. It is rather old, about 10 + years old. I do know it worked fine. It is cherry wood and it does have spanish cedar on the inside. Plus, i have had a couple of cases where a couple of cigars did get a LITTLE mold spot or two. that is my concern. I dont want to spend another $75 or so on a new one, i would rather see about putting some old-fahsioned elbow grease into reviving it.

What? That would mean that anyone who had spanish cedar would not have a beetle outbreak? Sorry. That's not the case.
no man, Beetles dont like munching on that stuff is all i read. Beetle outbreaks can still happen on your stoges, just not on the Spanish cedar.
So you'll have a perfectly fine humidor but your cigars will be destroyed.
wow........absolutley amazing.
i'm speechless.
Just trying to understand your point. You say, Spanish cedar is a beetle repellant. But not really, it's just the beetles don't eat the cedar (Do they eat other wood?). So they won't eat the wood, but they will eat the cigar. So, it's not really a repellant.
